May 20 (Bloomberg) -- California voters rejected a package of budget-balancing measures that Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger said were needed to keep a $15 billion deficit from widening to $21 billion. A proposal to limit lawmaker pay passed.
Five of the propositions were failing with 64 percent of the votes counted, according to California"™s elections office. The losing proposals would have capped spending and extended temporary tax increases, directed future surplus money to schools, authorized bonds backed by lottery profits and diverted already dedicated revenue to the budget.
Him and our stupid legistators got everything they deserved yesterday...over 65% of the voters here told him to shove it.
Now we need to get rid of all the no count stupid state spending programs, and this state needs to go BK court.
About half of the legislators that voted for these new and added on taxes are now being recalled, and a recall has already been certified by the Sec'y of State against the Governor.
His days are numbered here in California...

The real sad thing is the fact "WE THE PEOPLE" now will continue to get soaked with taxation without representation. How many of you on this forum voted in Cal? very few. and I can only hope that Obama doesn't bail Cal out...Cal needs to go BK, so a BK judge can decide what gets cut and what stays...if Obama bails this state out, then this State will continue its big super spending like usual...nothing will get corrected

It really should of been called a "sedative" bill becuase it's only succeeded in putting the country asleep.909, sorry to burst your bubble but only thing a BK judge would do for you today is tell you government is best, they need their money, therefore your taxes are being raised.

Sorry, but unless you live here and experience this strupid government first hand that is not what would happen...and in Cali right now the voters have to approve any new or extended taxes (and they didn't), a BK judge could not tax us a bit...My only hope is that that BHO does not bail Cali out...because then the Cali legislators and the Governator will not learn words such as cutbacks, balanced budget and so forth...there have been alot of California Governers that have had surpluses of money every year...the Governator is just not one of them....I'll take my chances with the BK judge over our Governator or Legislators...JMO
and if you think you have been stuck with Cals bill then just waituntil BHO bails Cali out...then the bill just got alot higher...
I am also sure that if California had been solvent and above board the rest of the country would have not needed a stimulus....yeah right!
My take is the bailouts need to stop across the board...private sector or public...that's why here in Cali I would prefer a BK judge. There's alot of people here that feel the same way sorry to burst your bubble.

909: How significant is the illegal immigrant problem with regard to the size of your deficit. I've heard at least $1 Billion per year is provided to illegals in free health care. How much is related to schooling, jails, and welfare costs? I bet I could carve $8 Billion off your deficit simply by de-funding illegals...

The IA's here in California are the problem...if we were to STOP providing services to them...we would have our deficit problem resolved in no time. The IA's get services here in California that the people that live here don't...The 1 billion that you see advertised for health care thru the mediais more like 2 billion...plus many other services provided...your figure of 8 billion is actually more like 14 billion.
3 Governers ago...we did not have a money problem, in fact California actually had a surplus of money, only in the last 10 years with the Governator and Gray Davis who felt they had to pay for everything for the IA's...have we had major money problems...
The other problem is the last 2 Governers have grown the State worker force over 50% what it was in 1999...this was in order to accommodate the services that we must now provide to the IA's...
I really don't care about this State...moving real soon...had enough of the crazy crooked politicians and tree huggers here!!!
