Default who rigged the gas prices ?

OK, reality is, the gas prices of 2006/07/08 and into '09 were rigged. That much should be obvious because c'mon, we're using as much or more oil than ever and prices aren't $5.00 a gallon and $140 a barrel.

Here is the thing most people don't see - diesel vs gasoline prices. When gas was $5 a gallon, diesel was $6 and that $1 more continued until about 6 months ago. As gas leveled at $1.75 +/- diesel got into the los $2.25-2.75 range.

Now? Gas is $2.20 and diesel amazingly is $2.01

All the arguments of greater cost of "clean" diesel being the cause?

bogus

who orchestrated the high diesel prices that literally increased the cost of every thing we buy and drove this economy into the ground?

Republicans?

Democrats?

Oil countries ?

Who ?

I believe that was the start of our depression....I call it what it is.

GOP= no....nothing to gain other than to take care of the buds in big oil. The resulting failed economy drove them out of Capitol Hill and the White House.

Dems= the failed economy allowed a perfect storm for them to muscle their way into the above. When you are at rock bottom only one way to go is up. They will enjoy an 8 + year run due to the economy since recovery will take more than a year or two and they will ride on it.

Oil countries= The middle east can't bring us down militarily so setting a stage where we rot out from within is a pretty good strategy. I doubt that they are smart enough or have enough sophistication/ technology to pull that one off. They are better at throwing rocks at each other.
Who= a better question is who benefited. It is a world wide recession or depression and there are few countries that came away unscathed. Red China strikes me as someone who probably gained some momentum since they appear to be one of the few with money and hold plenty of paper from us.

Gas prices are rising because those benevolent drillingcompanies and oil companies are shutting down rigs at a very rapid rate. There are no operating drill rigs that i know of in this part of OK. the rigs are sitting over a partially drilled well waiting for prices to go up.

The number of active drilling rigs in the USA is down by ten in the week ended 15 May, 09 anddown by 944 from one year ago. When oil prices hit about $3.00 per gallon the oil companies and their buds in congress whiil take up the "drill in ANWR"chant.

So what you are saying is that the drilling and oil companies are businesses looking for the best bottom line possible. Why sell a limited supply commodity when you can sit on it and sell when the prices go up. If it is supply and demand, they are indeed controlling their own markets. Sounds illegal.

I remember all of the lefties blaming Bush and Cheney for the high gas prices over the last 2 summers. I'm blaming Obama and Biden if the prices go up this year.

I think it is more in line with the peak driving season Ipsc. You know the old saying "make hay when the sun shines". Best to move the prices up when you will receive the most benefit (profit). It will peak just about 4th of July and then retreat a bit to allow the angry consumers to cool off and get lulled back into the dependency of cheap gas. [:@]

stealthy,

If prices were rigged, they'd always be high. Other countries factor into worldwide demand. Also things like refineries shutting down for a time when demand plummeted, and the current driving season heating up, and I can see how the price is rising. One could even argue that inflation is starting to creep in, as the tripling of the monetary base finds its way into the economy, and the dollar further weakens. At a time when we should have SEVERE deflation, we're seeing the price of some commodities rise.
