Default Garlic 'may cut cow flatulence'

How's this for a solution to Global Warming ?

Scientists in Wales tackling the impact flatulent cows and sheep have on global warming may have an answer - putting garlic in their food.

Experts claim cows are responsible for about 3% of Britain's greenhouse gases.

But initial results from the start of the three-year study show that feed containing garlic could cut the amount of gas produced by up to 50%.

The Aberystwyth research team is testing if this taints milk or meat - and gives the animals bad breath.

Sounds like a good excuse for a subsidy! Charge a breathing tax, and after the gubment eats $.30 per dollar to fund the garlic panel, they canchannel the other $.70insubsidies for garlic-laced feed for cows.

I'm quite certain grass fed beef has less flatulence than grain fed, ie natural cow's diet (grass) vs. unnatural(grain).

Easier sollution IMO is just have free ranging grass fed beef.

Funnier how natural is always better/healthier for us. We think we can control mother nature in this computer age, and in reality we're hurting more than were helping in many regards.

I can't say that it reduces the volume with any certainty, but garlic sure makes what's left fragrant as hell...[:'(]

Hmmm... Let's see... Why don't we feed an animal who's digestive system is based on fermentation something that causes them to ferment less. Yeah, that's a good idea.

I remember DLG saying a while back that she couldn't eat garlic because it affected the moms homemade milk.

With recent evidence that we're headed toward another Ice Age, perhaps we ought to be feeding them beans...

Yep! Except for that one mistake I haven't had garlic for a year and a half. (My mom had warned me, but I forgot.) I suspect if they feed the cows enough garlic to have an effect, they'll get garlic flavored milk.

That goes for sheep too, obviously
