I can't believe I let this one slip by. Thank you peta.
Stealthy, are baby seal hunts really hunting? In your book, I don't see how they can be. You drive around looking for the herd and then walk up and club a poor defenseless animal in the head.

RE: Hey Stealthy, this is for you
Most of the seal hunts today are done with high powered boats and rifles. One of my guides from the Newfoundland days does it every year as a way to make additional money. In the summer he harvests kelp from the Bay of Fundy.

you need to be more specific in what type of seal outing you're talking about
I suspect an inuit boy with a hakapic is a hunt while a ship full of highpowered rifles is merely commercial killing
I thought this was:

And here is another way to "Hunt" seals. Thank you, CI

No it is a way of life for the people of the Canadian far north. Most of the guides work all year at something pertaining to the outdoors. Some of the Newfi guys work in the winter on Christmas tree farms and then in the spring do the seal hunt then work the coast either fishing or harvesting kelp which is very dangerous or so I have been told. The seal hunt goes something like this. They take the boat all along the ice flows and when they see the seals they shoot them, hop out of the boat and skin them right there on the ice. The season only lasts a short time but if my memory is correct the oldguide told me he could make between 6-10K dollars which is a lot for those people. I guess the skinning takes just a few minutes per animal. They don't take the white pups.

no, that isn't hunting, there is no hunt there, only killing, like a beef cattle operation really
Or canned hunting operations like Old Stone Fence.
Yes I agree CI. However according to Stealth, I'm an anti-hunter if I don't oppose "canned" hunting. It's funny how he can so easily compare seal hunting to nothing more than a cattle ranch yet once again "canned" hunting isn't the samething. It doesn't matter that many earn a living from it, many poor families enjoy the free meat from those operations. The only thing that matters is the fact that deer are cute and cows aren't.
