FINDLAY, Ohio " A student at a fundamentalist Baptist school that forbids dancing, rock music, hand-holding and kissing will be suspended if he takes his girlfriend to her public high school prom, his principal said.
Despite the warning, 17-year-old Tyler Frost, who has never been to a dance before, said he plans to attend Findlay High School's prom Saturday.
Frost, a senior at Heritage Christian School in northwest Ohio, agreed to the school's rules when he signed a statement of cooperation at the beginning of the year, principal Tim England said.
The teen, who is scheduled to receive his diploma May 24, would be suspended from classes and receive an "incomplete" on remaining assignments, England said. Frost also would not be permitted to attend graduation but would get a diploma once he completes final exams. If Frost is involved with alcohol or sex at the prom, he will be expelled, England said.
Frost's stepfather Stephan Johnson said the school's rules should not apply outside the classroom.
"He deserves to wear that cap and gown," Johnson said.
Frost said he thought he had handled the situation properly. Findlay requires students from other schools attending the prom to get a signature from their principal, which Frost did.
"I expected a short lecture about making the right decisions and not doing something stupid," Frost said. "I thought I would get his signature and that would be the end."

"In life, we constantly make decisions whether we are going to please self or please God. (Frost) chose one path, and the school committee chose the other," England said.

You're going to see a lot more of this, unfortunate and sad as it is.
Those of that mindset are often "wolves in sheeps clothing" and they seek to "scatter the flock". By that I mean those who would persecute the boy for what he is doing. Seeking to consolidate their own power over others through exclusion and intimidation - and of course, sentencing them to hell as an after thought.

As I recall, Jesus once went to a wedding at Cana. It is said that he changed water into wine there. Maybe he even drank a sip or two. If that was like most weddings, there was dancing and revelry. Perhaps he danced too.
Small wonder Christianity is experiencing a decline. Hypocrisy stinks.

Good lesson. He signed the agreement. Living up to his word is the best lesson he will learn. Now lets see If I was his Dad I would rather have him go to the secular prom,Get drunk, become a father and risk aids. Not to mention he is unequally yoked with a pagan chick.

I am a firm believer in the principal that a school's jurisdiction over a student ends when they walk off the school grounds and doesn't start up again until they set foot on school grounds the next day. However, if one signs up to attend a private religious school that has a clearly articulated morals clause then you have made your bed and now have to lay in it in terms of honoring the agreement. Dont know which is more of an issue, religion imposing its belief system on people or individuals voluntarily entering a particular denomination and then whining about it being too strict for the lifestyle that they choose to embrace.

I agree that he signed an agreement and should live up to it. However, I would want to examine the agreement myself before blindly accepting some media savant's "summary" of the terms.
I know your post is somewhat tongue in cheek but after rereading the original post a few times, I was unable to find anything mentioning drinking, sex, aids or that the girlfriend was a pagan, not a christian or any other mention of her religious beliefs or lack thereof.
I noted the Baptist school Principal said "In life, we constantly make decisions whether we are going to please self or please God. (Frost) chose one path, and the school committee chose the other." I would love to hear him explain his actions and how he thinks they are teaching the young man about his faith, pleasing God himself and are biblically justified. I am not a Baptist and have never attended one of their services or studied their particular religious beliefs.
I agree that a religious school does have a moral and faith obligation to teach their students about God and growing in their faith. I am looking at the entire article and am wondering if this Principal isn't conveying a message or theme of being some kind of modern day pharisee. I think he would have an interesting conversation with Jesus about this situation and a tough time justifying his actions.
