It was another ship loaded with free US food. I say, no more free food for countries that cannot controlanimals in the region's waters. You know how your daughter dates a guy who doesn't have a job? Makes you uneasy enough, but when he wrecks the car you bought HER, well that's it. Sometimes less is more, and we can do with a lot less of that!
New US policy, no free food for freeloaders whose people aren't satisfied with free food, but want $ millions in ransom. Also, any US ship approached to within 5 miles when 20 miles or more off coast will be immediately destroyed. The US does not acknowledge "no firearm" laws of other countries, and recognizes theright for its people to defend itself whenever and wherever they conduct business.
It should be "open season" on any and all pirates at sea. This incident as example, if a thief goes into a convinience store and gets away without any money or goods, BUT gets caught leaving the scene, should he not be arrested. SO, these pirates attempted to board a ship, we caught them at the scene, should they not have been "dealt" with on the spot?

Yes, target them at sea. However, we know where they are based. We know exact locations. We have the capability to do surgical airstrikes and need to proceed with them as soon as possible. Whey you have cancer, you must cut it out.
We have to do it because there really is not a government that is in control of much of anything. When they are caught in the act, on the water, NO SURVIVORS need exist.[:@]

RE: Another US ship attacked by pirates
Just station a couple of aircraft carriers on either side of that area and when the ship first radios they see approaching boats or they are under attack send out an F18 Hornet to the scene. A high speed jet can arrive within minutes and take care of the problem. Ships have radar so they should be able to see the other boats coming towards them and to radio the carrier before an attack. One or two of those pirate boats getting blown out of the water should curb the urge to be a pirate. The problem right now is the shipping companies have decided that it is easier and cheaper to just pay them off rather than to fight back. This has been a cakewalk for the pirates and it needs to stop.

I am simply amazed that the world has let themselves be held hostage by a bunch of barefoot thugs in rubber dingies carrying AK-47's and a few meat cleavers. The world can easily come to a pact where any naval vessel in the area simply blows anyone out of the water who fails to identify themselves or gets to close to any merchant vessel. Very, very easily done.
Unfortunately, the U.S. has not been willing to do any sort of "gloves off" fighting for the last 50 odd years, no matter the conflict. If we could, Vietam would have been a resounding victory, Iraq and Afghanistan would have been 99 percent pacified 4 or 5 years ago, and it would be a long hard look just to find a couple active pirate vessels. Just dont work thatway anymore.

Got to admit, Ron Paul does have it right. However, with many in America not even knowing what the Constitution is and/or just like to say "The hell with our constitution" don't hold your breath.
Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) and a growing number of national security experts are calling on Congress to consider using letters of marque and reprisal, a power written into the Constitution that allows the United States to hire private citizens to keep international waters safe.

RE: Another US ship attacked by pirates
I don't feel it is the US responsibility to fight pirates on the open seas. It is our responsibility to protect our own vessels and any attempt to pirate them needs to be dealt with swiftly and with finality. If the world's shipping companies feel it is better to pay them off rather than fight then that is their prerogative. The US doesn't negotiate with terrorists and the word would quickly spread to keep hands off US ships if we retaliated 100% of the time right away and killed them at the scene. Those pirates should fear the United States and avoid boarding their vessels at all costs. Being soft and paying people protection money never works in the long run as evidenced by the increased pirate attacks.

Dealing with war with another nation is one thing, dealing with a bunch of barefoot thugs in dingies is another. If commercial aircraft was being fired upon in international airspace we would surely take action. I see NO difference here.
