Default Slow Threads

If you're having slowness issues and threads hanging up, consider deleting your cookies and temporary cache of internet files. This will sometimes help speed things up on this website. If you're under 50, you probably know how to do this. If you're over 50, get your teenager to fix your puter.

This won't solve all of the problems on this site but it will often help speed things up a bit.

My husband doesn't get on here much, but he does lurk on rare occasion. I'm hoping he doesn't see this thread. He's very even tempered, but he tends to go homicidal when the techies suggest that there is something deficient about his computer when the problem is obviously elsewhere.

He once spent 2-3 hours on the phone with "Kevin" from India with DSL problem. Finally out of patience, he called AT & T demanding answers only to find out that the system was down over several states. Nobody had bothered to tell "Kevin" in India that the system was down.

We're not going to delete cookies or do anything else to our computer.the problems areobviously due to the new program that was installed to allow posting ads within the threads. We'll wait until they correct the problems and we'll sign on less and less as time goes on until we don't sign on at all anymore. If the goal is to reduce the number of people signing on here, it's working. But since ad rates, as I understand, are based on the number of subscribers, that seems counterproductive. But what do I know?

Interesting to note that the time stamp on this site seems to be west coast time 3 hours behind the east. Before the sale of HNI I believe it was central time 1 hour behind the east. Obviously the HNI servers changed geographic location as well as ownership. I know that shouldn't make any difference but it is slower now.

I believe that the slowness of threads is directly proportional to the number of Obama voters participating in them. As we all know, Obama voters are exceptionally "slow"and their participation seems to slow things down...

Black helicopters and tinfoil hats notwithstanding, deleting your cookies and temporary internet files will actually speed up your internet experience on HNI. It will not solve all of the problems but will help some. Not posting or reducing your amount of posts will also help speed things up as there will be less traffic on the server. For those of you voluntarily reducing or eliminating your posting, thank you for helping bring a temporary improvement in the situation also.

Now for everybody else who plans on continuing posting and would like to help troubleshoot the problem, please email or PM the specifics of when you had a problem and where to either admin or mods (and mods will pass that info on to admin). Believe it or not, in the past, the links at the bottom of the page didn't work very well when the links at the top of the page did. This type of info was helpful to the techies so they knew where the problem was and could focus on it.

While adding extra content to the website (ads, etc.) will obviously slow things down, it is still helpful to find out exactly where that slowing effect is occurring. The techies will have to consider extra server space, programing and other issues to fully resolve the issue.

Your patience and help is appreciated. and for those of you now wearing tinfoil hats or suspecting black helicopters are involved, there is another unnamed member who would like to discuss federal issues with you.[8D]

My pick for the best one liner of the week!

I am one of those Techies and I can tell you Cal is right that deleting your cookies and temporary internet files will help with speeding up your internet experience. There is a free program that will do a better job than clearing the cache in Internet Explorer. I"™m just not sure if I am allowed to post the link for you to download it. It is also the only program I recommend for deleting orphaned and corrupted Registry Files.

I am not familiar with the HNI server so all I can tell you about is from the Windows side of this. There are many changes with web site design that affect how we view them. No matter if you are using IE6 or IE7, I cannot say about other browsers, I want the native programs associated with Windows to work properly.

I use W2K with IE6 and anytime HNI is slow to load I will use the back button to reload the page and then click on the thread again or I will simply hit the refresh button a couple of times to make it load.

From my experience I have learned that there are three things that have to stay updated to have better surfing capability.

Windows Critical and Security Updates must be Current.
Java6 Runtime Enviroment must be installed with current updates.
Adobe Flash Player 9 or 10 must be installed.

If you need any help I will post the links if I"™m allowed to.
