It's ironic, really. GM was forced by cafe standards to produce more gas efficient cars. But they lag Toyota in efficiency and value in that department, and abandoned their money making trucks. Enter late 2008/2009. Gas prices plummet and GM is out of their element. With democrats and UAW running the store, you are sure to be run like the DC government!

GM has more models that make 30+ mpg than Toyota. How do they lag Toyota in efficiency? I believe even the full size Chevy Impala is now rated at 30 hwy. US vehicles have somehow gotten a bum rap on fuel efficiency, but, if you compare competing vehicles, we're as good or better...

RE: GM/Segway
Ive got Fords and Chevys. Ford simply sucks on milage, Chevy was pertty good. My suburban gets about 22 mpg, where as my little Ford sport trac gets 16 mpg at very best. And it engine is half the size. We have a Chevy Monte Carlo that gets 35 mpg and has the same size engine as my sport trac. My wifes Moutaineer gets only 17 mpg. Agian a ford product. Both the sport trac and Moutaineer have Fords Soc 6 banger. I dont quite git it. Heck, I traded in a Chevy Silverado, for the sport trac, and it got 25 mpg. Agian, twice the engine the sport trac has.[:@]

Ford supposedly has in the works a new fuel injection system that's going to improve gas mileage by 25%. Not sure of the details, but, heard about it from my mechanic.
My F150 is getting about 14 mpg around town, with the 5.4L V-8. It does better on the freeway, as on one tank, with a little more freeway driving than usual, I got 15.8. You must drive that Sport Trac pretty hard.
Gas mileage values alone don't tell the whole story. Overall quality is where the foreign auto makers are killing us. For the overall quality that the big three have been putting out those cars should cost about ten grand less than what they do. It's a shame that the foreign auto makers produce a better product that retains its value better that the American made cars and their labor costs are approximately 45 % lower.

That's what my son used to believe. He used to give me crap about driving my Mustang, and bought into the garbage spewed by the "fast and furious" crowd about the reliability and performance of Honda/Toyota/Nissan/Mitsubishi, et al.
Then he became a dispatcher at a delivery company that employs a couple hundred drivers. Many of the drivers put well in excess of a hundred thousand miles per year on their vehicles. He says that the folks who spend the most time on the road are driving domestics. Most time in the shop drive ***anese and Korean.

Actuallly, I drive it like and old man, or at least thats what my wife says. I have even put in a K and N high flow air filter in it, which bumped it up to 16 from 15 mpg. I get that on the highway. [:'(] I really like the truck, but hate the gas milage.
