I mean plants that have Natural gas shipped in while in it's stable liquid form. It is piped from a ship to a plant nearby that will heat and convert it to a more natural gas form so that it can be used like those in the citys. It will be piped once converted down to Mass. most of it anyways. Some of it will be used in this state as right now in the Bangor area 2 power plants are running of some that ispiped in from Sable Island, Canada. Each plant once built is supposed to employ 100 to 125 people. During the peak of it's building up to 1000 people.
Convenient how that article fails to mention what got the middle income families to this point. Democrats with their wild spending and social programs to keep people on the government tit instead of going out and earning a living. I said it once, I'll say it again, Jimmy Carter started this whole mess with CRA and Bill Clinton shoved it down our throats by rewriting the laws forcing banks to underwrite subprime loans.
It's great to see how stubborn some of you are that you can not see that it started under Bush"s watch. Obama got left holding the bag full of garbage that Bush had dropped onto him.. It's nice to see how some of you react to what is going on with out even having a clue.. Heck some of you couldn't even buy a clue. I happen to be one of those middle class workers that have lost a job as well. Guess what corporate stated we were favorable in manpower, wages, safety, and production. We just can no longer compete with free trade and South a,erican dumping.. The republican Senators are saying that we need production jobs here in the USA and will work to try and get them going again. States are loosing to much money and they all will be taxing the heck out of those that are still working before long even if you think they already have..
OK I'll give it to you about jobs being outsourced to foreigners. But here's one for you. What is the cause and when did it start. The cause is unions forcing higher labor costs, when it started was by one of your poster boys legacy. It's called NAFTA, want to guess who's baby that one was.

Cheaper labor equals cheaper products. Also, cheaper labor equals more profits that flow to US stockholders, mainly citizens with 401 k plans and personal portfolios. On the one hand, we say we have the best labor force in the world and can compete with anyone. On the other, we say we can't compete at all and need our people to pay higher prices for goods jacked up by union labor demands.

Funny thing about this corporate did state we were low cost producers and the fact that labor here was favorable. They do not have any plans to sell the mill because of it's size and high out put. Labor has been downsized to fit the current standards of the market place and we actually broke just above even for the year end. We turned a profit of around 1.1 million after taking a very big dive around September threw the end of the year. We were way ahead of the game until the big turn around took place. Currently loosing around 4 million a month due to a flooded market from South America.
Nafta was on it's way with President reagan when China rolled the red carpet out to him..
I see. Curious how many MW these new plants are good for. Our facility is 800MW and once employed nearly 300, over the past ten years it has been reduced to 100. Gas fired is pricy, that would explain why I notice a high grid price up your way. Hopefully you may get your foot in the door. Good luck.

The biggest cost to us is currently wood prices because of the high feul prices this past summer. Wood prices rose sharply and never returned back down where it should have. That along with shipping costs to have ships come in to the port up here. With plans on bringing in more ships with imports shiping costs is expected to drop some what.

How do you figure NAFTA was on the way during the Reagan administration after a visit to China. China in no way has anything to do with or gain from NAFTA
North American Free Trade Agreement

Phil - sorry that you lost your job, but like many others in wood products industries lately, you should have seen it coming.
The United States has some of the most restrictive rules regarding timber harvest. The rules that make it difficult to harvest timber on public land shift demands on supply to other sources, to include private stands, as well as to other COUNTRIES who don't have the same restrictions, namely those in South America and Indonesia. I'm all for sustainable timber harvest. It pains me to walk the same stands of trees I did 30 years ago and see trees dying by the millions of board-feet. Trees already stressed by drought are competing with each other for what water and nutrients are available, become weak and are attacked en masse by the wonderful Rocky Mountain Pine Beetle, which then kills them. In contrast, the stands that were thinned (not clearcut as the oft-unknowing left will always assert) 20 years ago don't have the same congestion and competition problems - and are alive and healthy. We have frequent windstorms (much like tornadoes in intensity)in the ponderosa forests that take the tops of the trees off, killing the trees. Do you think the Sierra Club will let you salvage the dead trees? Simply, No. What it boils down to is that the forests "saved" by leftist groups like the Sierra Club are DYING, while the stands that were logged will be all that are left.
You wantto know why theraw wood products your plant relied upon were so expensive? Look no further than your Democratic party who, particularly under former President Clinton, expanded restrictions on timber harvest to the point your plant has beeneffectively strangled.
Let's preserve our natural resources, but let's call a spade a spade here. There IS a cost to doing so - and YOU arepaying it. THAT is why your mill is shutting down. Demand for the product didn't go down, it just found a cheaper supplier than the United States timber industry.
