CNN showed video of some of the meetings between The Queen of England and the Obamas. Supposedly, the Obamas had been schooled in protocol before all these meeetings this week.
As I understand it, it is considered improper to touch the Queen. At one point, Mrs. Obama put her arm around the Queen. The Queen was taken aback by the whole incident. She actually flinched perceptibly.
Are the Obama's a little uncouth, a little dumb, or just plain arrogant?
It certainly isn't going to cause any problems, but to act in such a way doesn't show much respect for British royalty. Obviously, the Queen is no better than anyone else, but such matters of protocol are a part of long standing tradition.
Like a lot of people, the Obama's need to learn:
If you want respect, extend respect to others.
You need to get your facts straight. The queen put her arm around her afterward. Its all luvvy duvvy over there.lol
You need to get your facts straight. As usual, you don't. I watched the video of the whole situation. The backward Obamas broke commonly known protocol. The Queen is a magnanimous woman. As a consequence, she did put her arm around the erring first lady. The point is, the first lady should have known better. She should have had more respect for traditionsregarding the royal family that have been carried on for centuries. She had just been instructed in those matters.
This is a major failure of the State Department. It is their responsibility to fully prep all officials with regards how they interact with other foreign countries. So once again, this falls smack dab at the feet of Hillary's blunders along with all the stupid gifts. Worst yet, Hillary is supposed to already have the foreign experience so we were told. Didn't she run her campaign on that fact?

I am ambivalent about this. On the one hand, you are on their turf so follow their rules. On theother hand, the Obamas are not British subjects, and under the circumstances there can be a fine line between showing what is perceived to respect versus what others might see as subservience. The fallout might have been equally bad if the Obamas were caught on filmdeeply bowing and kneeling as some do over there.

The fallout would've been considerably less if Michelle had touched herself instead...
Seriously, touching the Queen is considered a major scale breach of etiquette, and one she won't soon forget, neither will her goobermint considering the level of insult it represents.
