The Entrepreneurial Spirit Still Alive, Even in Michigan
To urban hunter, next meal is scampering by Detroit retiree, 69, supplements his income by living off the land Detroit - When selecting the best raccoon carcass for the special holiday roast, both the connoisseur and the curious should remember this simple guideline: Look for the paw. "The paw is old school," says Glemie Dean Beasley, a Detroit raccoon hunter and meat salesman. "It lets the customers know it's not a cat or dog." Beasley, a 69-year-old retired truck driver who modestly refers to himself as the Coon Man, supplements his Social Security check with the sale of raccoon carcasses that go for as much $12 and can serve up to four. The pelts, too, are good for coats and hats and fetch up to $10 a hide.
While economic times are tough across Michigan as its people slog through a difficult and protracted deindustrialization, Beasley remains upbeat.
[/align]Where one man sees a vacant lot, Beasley sees a buffet. "Starvation is cheap," he says as he prepares an afternoon lunch of barbecue coon and red pop at his west side home........

I have to hand it to that guy to hang in there and make the best of it. The downside is who put his state in such delima? His vote is all he has, I suspect he will use it wisely and help rid America of these Right Wing Criminals that caused him to have to utilize his ability at meager existence. SAD

I think if Michigan and Detroit actually canned their democratic representation, it might hurt Mr. Beasley's inner city coon hunting business.

You know C.Davis, it is amazing the enginuity of some individuals in a bind, to turn a bad situation into something wonderful. Heck, I can remember when I spent alot more time in my garden, before I got spoiled and lazy. I even remember how to can pickles. I also remember fleshing, stretching, and drying many a coon hide. Many things are a dieing trade, could be handy if times get bad enough.

LOL FM, does it even matter that you have the facts? If there were no Republicans in this country it would still be the failure of the right wing republicans in RainMorons eyes. This is one person that has absolutely no clue about anything. His incessant ramblings have almost pushed me to the point Stealthycat is at.......block him!! The absurdity of his posts is mesmerizing to say the least. Kind of like looking at a car wreck.....you really don't want to look but you just can't help yourself........then you feel like crap after you do.

The only problem with people like RM is that there are a bunch more like him. It would be amusing if he were the only one and we didn't have to worry about that type of mindlessness gaining popularity. But unfortunately that isn't the world we live in.
Iwould like to think that he is part of an oldtraveling carnival and is one of the side show freak attractions. Lord knows he would qualify.

You guys aren't giving rainmaker nearly enough credit here. This thread is all about the entrepreneurial spirit in Michigan.
Michigan....the car capital of the world!
Just look at the post above and see how cleverly rainmaker uses the word "ingenuity". How appropriate that truly is!
