The Political forum has always been moderated a little looser than many of the other forums so that members could more fully articulate their political points of view and people could benefit or gain from the offered knowledge. In general, this looser moderating has resulted in some excellent political discussions enjoyed by many members. The vast majority of members have "self-policed" themselves and have not crossed a line requiring a lot of moderation.
It takes a lot of time to edit out your rules violations, PM or email you about the transgression, PM or email the other party and explain that the matter has been handled and to refrain from initiating a flame war. I generally try to edit a member's rules violations and leave the gist of their post intact so the discussion can continue. When I've had to PM or email some members about rules violations, almost everyone has been a gentleman about it and self-policed themselves afterwards. This takes a LOT more time but it has saved some members who have contributed a lot to HNI.
Lately, there have been several complaints about different members violating the rules with apparent impunity. Some members apparently think that the rules don't apply to them and continually violate them. Rules 1, 2 and 12 (see copy below) are the most frequently violated. Some (but not all) of the violators have had several of their posts edited, received some warnings and still violate the rules.
When all other remedies fail, it unfortunately comes down to a more permanent action. If you continue to violate these rules, you (yes, YOU) will end up being permanently banned from HNI. It doesn't matter if you are a life member (1,000+ posts) or a newer member with less than 5 posts. If you continue to violate the rules, you will be banned.
I hope the members violating HNI's rules begin self-policing themselves and avoid being permabanned. For those few who simply cannot control themselves, HNI can and will permaban you. I'm available by PM or email if you have questions and hope to see all of you remain members.
