I don't understand that. When Obama taxes fossil fuels so much they are MORE expensive than wind and solar, isn't it then worth the enormous cost with money we don't have to dot the landscape with windmills and solar panels?
My understanding is that it takes more than one gallon of fossil fuel to produce a gallon of Bio. ( gas for the tractor, hauling it to the processing plants, fertilizer and such). This doesn't mean we shouldn't recyclye things like used cooking oils and the likes, but to make gas from corn is not a win on the grand scheme of things.
So I have to wonder if Shell is dropping wind, solar and hydro, because it doesn'ttakefossil fuels to produce them, thus cutting into thier profits?

Perhaps sharpknife instead of wondering, why not do a little research and seewhat's anenergy source cost isto produce anequivalent amount of energy.

I wasn't wondering about the costs Mouse, I was wondering if this is what changed their strategy. I have spent nearly all of my thirty year career in Energy, I know the costs.

I don't know everything about it yet but Fox had a story on it a few days ago, It will be a alcohol base fuel but can be made from almost anything and it will not be corrosive to pipe lines so no new lines will have to be installed first. They said it will have the capability to completely replace oil. The story said it is about two years away and can be made from wood, grass Algae, grain and other materials.I believe they said that some outfit in CA. is working on it. It shows a lot of promise. I think everyone knows that we need to replace oil sooner than later. I think most know that we are nowhere near ouit of coal or oil but it won't last forever. However we need to drill it and mine it while it's needed.

Then you would no solar and wind aren't new and in the long run a waste of time. Wind is centuries old and solar is decades.

I saw this. No it doesn't have the ability to replace gasoline. They even said that. We will be gasoline based for your life time and your childrens life time. There's too much of it out there. They are years away from anything useful, however it is a better choice than turning our food in to fuel.

Ethanol is the second biggest scam behind manmade global warming. There are a few promising alternatives out there, but the idea is to make them cost effective versus fossil fuels without the cap and trade tax factored in. This economy is stressing enough on socialist policies before jacking up utility bills more. As an example, BG&E raised its electric rates 72% over the pass two years, and gas has increased due to locking in when the price spiked. Ratepayers who will be paying extra for nationalized healthcare, and whose money will buy less as the printing presses run flat out (money in circulation has doubled under Obama)don't need another big hit for Gore and company's global warming scheme!
