"It did not matter if a detainee were innocent. Indeed, because he lived in Afghanistan and was captured on or near the battle area, he must know something of importance," Wilkerson wrote in the blog. He said intelligence analysts hoped to gather "sufficient information about a village, a region, or a group of individuals, that dots could be connected and terrorists or their plots could be identified."
It proves that we've wasted millions of dollars capturing, holding, transporting, and interrogating people for absolutely no benefit. Furthermore, we may have made some situations worse as a result. Not to mention that we've ruined some lives.
The whole debate of Gitmo sent no small number of people to the Democrats last election day. Yeah, mistakes happen. But they are always very costly.

Please, give me a break. Up until Obama got into office, I've felt very safe. Now I must read articles telling my some of them in gitmo could be walking our streets free tomorrow. We are at war, I have faith in our brave men and women who are keeping us safe.

Feeling safe and being safe are two different things. Yep, we're at war. And some of our warriors are dumber than a box of rocks. You don't see many geniuses in uniform, unfortunately. Not to mention that passions trump logic in times of conflict. That's just human nature.
I guarantee you that any Gitmo detainees walking free in the U.S. will likely be lynched in very short order...

How do you say that? Are we going to know who they are? Are we going to stamp them with the scarlet letter?
Everybody is screaming for the closing of Gitmo and the release of it's prisoners, but I've yet to hear anybody say what to do with them. Their home countries do not want them back and Americans don't want them in our country. The ones with any common since anyways. What's the solution to this?

First, because of the freedom and ease at which information travels in the Information Age. Second, because a lot of angry and spiteful Americans will be watching and waiting for just such a thing.

I've given alternatives from the beginning. Guantanamo isn't the first, only, or last secret prison we've had around the world. Move them, I say. And this time, shut the hell up about it and deny access to journalists, period.

Excellent.

Yes it did.The failed politics of fear cost the Republicans dearly in 06 and 08.
