Please, someone explain to me why we will waste 1.3 billion on Amtrak?

For those who understand, no explanation is needed. For those who do
not understand, no explanation is possible.

Why do you call it a waste? Is it because you don't ride it? It will produce many jobs, short term and long term. Also, Biden explainedvery well that highway construction to serve the same purpose would cost many times more $. Its quick and efficienttravel, and it saves on smog
Honestly I sorta agree w/ rainman on this one... If they insist on spending money, i'd rather see it on stuff like amtrak than social engineering programs!

Because if there was a real demand for it, it would have been built already. I would rather see the government offer tax exemptions for rail companies who build passenger lines. Private industry would do it faster, better, and cheaper than the government.

Bingo, it's been a black hole for pouring huge amounts of money in. If it was a viable form of transportation, it could stand on it's own feet as a private company. RM, why do you insist on funding every fricking program that the government has no right in funding? It saddens me when folks like yourself don't understand our own Constitution and rather then learn about it, you say the hell with it.

Mouse, RM explained it very well for you... Why do insist on tearing everything that comes from the government?
BTW: The reason the Government has to do it, is because the private sector won't. This Amtrak program will do great and benefit in many ways. And how does supporting an Amtrak system become a notion that someone doesn'tunderstandour Constitution?

Study the Constitution and study the Federalist papers. We have allowed our Federal Government to run out of control and assume power they don't have. We the people grant our governmentrights not the other way around.

Then it shouldn't be done. There are several faster and/or cheaper modes of travel for the people. If some peole insist on the train, charge them the market value for the ticket. Why is that such a problem?

lraq is a much bigger and deeper black hole. Oops, forgotIraq is a holy war and that's different.
Please tell me which is in the Constitution, War or Amtrak? You also made a false statement. Who called it a holly war? It's not a holy war.

FM, efficient passenger travel is just as essential for our nations future as interstate highway system and airports. These systems were not built by private interprise, but by the government. We can't expect private enterprise alone to do everything needed to provide intercity passenger rail service, either. As airports and highways become increasingly clogged, U.S. travelers deserve to have an efficient, reliable alternative for intercity travel. Airlines and Automotive companies have big lobby to stop rail service, rail should be funded also and trust funds put into place just like the others. A truly efficient intercity transportation system uses air, highway, and rail to their fullest extent.
