Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

What will our two party system look like? The Republicans have shot themselves in the foot, and the Democrats have taken that gun and started shootintg themsleves in the foot. With the Republicans last jump to the left, they have done major damage. The Democrats have a double wammy coming, similar to what we saw happen to the Republicans. They will be hit with the "ultimate power" blues that always come with the a party holding a majority; as well as the damage done by the debt they are creating. What do you predict the political landscape will look like in 4 years?

Rain and the kid, I know, you will say, "It will be all Democrats left because they are great and wonderful".

For the rest of the realists, what do you thing?

Way to answer the question. So are you showing us yourintelegence and 18 year of life experience? Is that the bestanswer you got? I guess my point was made. You should have just answered the way you really wanted to with a comment like, "Bush is a poo poo head, so the democrats are great and will be the ultimate in power. Stupid Bush, Republicans are doo doo heads. "

FYI, Im an independant, but you problably missed the part in this post where I point out the flaws of the Republicans.

I personally think to start winning elections again the Republicans need to drop the statist ideas W. and the neocons brought to the party, and go back to even a pre-Reagan mindset of small government (I'm talking a total revamping of federal government bureaucracy), low taxes, hands off on constitutionally protected civil rights issues at the federal level, let the states worry about the rest. I think a semi-isolationist mindset regarding military affairs could also be beneficial. Proactive, but not Iraq-war style overactive. I would love to see a Ron Paul type, or even Ron Paul lite, on the Republican ticket, and I think they could do pretty such a party leader.

Regarding the Democrats, someone needs to tap Obama on the shoulder, and explain to him that if he keeps pissing off middle-America with garbage like guncontrol, and pork in budgets, he is going to be a one termer, and fight aRepublican congressafter 2010 (which would/will be a good thing IMO).

Personally, I think Obama will do some very good work to right some of the wrongs W. brought on the country, while at the same time, forcing the Republicans to get abit more libertarian in their mindset. Obama's good points are good enough to balance out any bad he can do in 4 years IMO.

But, the realist in me says we'll probably just see both parties move further to the statist middle, and we'll still be picking between bad and worse.

In 2012 the RNC will have had a new leader for a couple of years. The far right entertainers will still be railing against Obama. The Republicans will re-surrect some reject from the 2008 primaries who will become their new great white hope. The Democrat party will still besinging their same old liberal tune. TheDNC will slightly re-package Obama to suit the economic situation prevailing at that time.

The party running congress at the time will promise real pork barrel reform. There will be vivid stories of pork barrel politics gone haywire.

There will be no US energy policy. The Democrats will bescreaming to go green while the Republicans whine to drill in ANWR.

The twoherds of hogs that inhabit the US congress will tear apart the granary and quickly eat all the corn-again. Then they will be reduced to fighting over a few grains in the $hit piles.

Debate over feel good issues like abortion, flag burning, gay marriage, The Ten Commandments, and the Pledge of Allegiance will have HNI members at each others throats.

How things will look in four years will almost certainly depend on the state of the economy at that time. If GDP growth is up, unemployment down and inflation under control than President Obama cruises to a second term and the Republicans get another drubbing for having opposed his policies. If the economy is still in the doldrums than things get more complicated. There will be disappointment with the President but there will also be reluctance on the part of many voters to put the Republicans back in power since their perceived missteps over the past eight years are still going to be fairly fresh in the minds of the electorate. It will probably take more than four years for the country to forget how much they disliked G. W. Bush by the end of his term in office.

If the economy is a basically neutral issue and there are no international crises in 2012 then the Republicans face the same problem that they faced in 2008. The Democrats made big inroads in traditionally Republican states like Ohio, Indiana, Virginia, Colorado, New Hampshire and North Carolina that may be difficult to reverse. Virginia, North Carolina, Colorado and New Hampshire went Democratic largely due to demographic changes in those states. Take Virginia for example, there are now simply more voters in the rapidly growing northern part of the commonwealth living in the D.C. suburbs, who tend to be Democrats, than there are Republicans in the rest of the commonwealth whose numbers have remained static. The growth of the "Research Triangle" in North Carolina likely flipped that state. People moving out of Massachusetts into southern New Hampshire have turned the "Granite state" from red to blue. In the west the growing Hispanic population has flipped New Mexico, Nevada and Colorado from staunchly Republican to fairly reliably Democratic states. The Republicans probably only held Arizona in 2008 becasue of "favorite son" McCain being on top of the Republican ticket. On the other hand the Democrats were not seriously challenged in any of their traditional strongholds in 2008. Despite an overwhelming commitment of time and resources, Mccain could not garner anywhere near enough votes in central Pennsylvania to overcome the big Democratic majority in the Philadelphia suburbs. These are all trends that are going to grow even stronger by 2012. The Republicans have to somehow broaden their appeal by 2012 and I personally believe they have no hope of doing that if they nominate a conservative Sourtherner in 2012. However, the belief in the Republican party seems to be that they lost in 2008 because their candidate was not conservative enough.

That is the only hope the USA has

Your talking libertarian but it will never happen. Too many people follow the chowline today. Those are called independents. They care more about survior and american idol rather than how much money is being stolen out of their paycheck. Most on this board admittedly say the hell with our constition. It doesn't mean what it means. They for get we defined what powers our government has. However, today, that means craddle to grave nanny state. You can trace all this back to FDR and a little before that when our representatives thought it OK to steal personal property by imposing an income tax.
