Karzai warned that there are Taliban fighters who are beyond reconciliation "” those who have joined with Al Qaeda, for instance. But he said talks should go forward "with those who are afraid to come back to their country, or who feel they have no choice but to stay with the Taliban for various reasons. They are welcome."

Bingo, you found the problem. Obama and Karzai are idiots but the plan is not new. Karzai and theBushadministration signed on to a Saudi Arabian planto hold reconciliation talks with the Taliban. Never mind that Saudi is a long time backer of the Taliban.This is why Bushdid not send additional US troops to Afghanistan.
