Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default What are the chances

that HR45 will pass? After reading the full text, this bill scares the hell out of me. So much for Obama not being anti gun, huh? [:@]From the looks of it, this bill could be enough to make casual gun owners completely give them up, and eventually they could make it so expensive none of us can legally own a gun. I'm sure this is old news but I haven't really had the time to follow this bill and research it until recently. So what do you guys think? Will it pass?

I sure hope not. All those people who thought the Patriot Bill overreached should be scared to death about this bill.

I fear that one a lot but I don't think they can gain that much ground right away. At some point the more conservative democrats are going to have to break from chumpbama and the silly lilly left If the dems push for to much gun control to fast, they will loose a bunch of mid term elections.

I sure hope your prediction about midterm elections comes true. Republicans need to gain control of the Senate or House and get rid of the RINO's so there's some balance again and hopefully some restrictions on any further spending.

I was on the Gun Owners of America website looking at the ratings and doing a count. I counted C rating or better as pro gun, D or below as anti-gun. And I don't guarantee the accuracy of my count. [&:]

House:209 pro gun, 192 anti-gun, 23 not rated

House requires 217 votes for a majority

Senate: 43 pro gun, 53 anti-gun, 4 not rated. Of those 4 is Jim Webb who can be added to the pro gun count, so make it 44-53-3. Neither side can break a filibuster.

It depends on which way those unrated - not to mention the marginal C rated - Congressmen swing.

I wish the GAO site listed the Senators and Reps by party, but it doesn't. Look for your Congressmen on the list and get after 'em.

I haven't read the entire bill, did Obama say he would sign it or was he one of the original authors?

So much for Obama not being anti gun, huh?

Ummmm....no. This bill has nothing to do with Obama.

This exact same bill was brought several years ago and died in comittee.

So far, this bill has no co-sponsors and no co-authors.

Despite the assured fact that right-wingers will use this to say "SEEE WE TOLD YOU SO..." this bill will never come up for a vote.

Move along, nothing to see here.

Famous last words in Canada and Australia. Anyone who thinks it can't happen here is living in a damn bubble. I agree with Arthur, I can't see either side coming up with enough votes to get this one done.

osama has always been anti-gun. There is no question about that. During his run he said he believed in the Second amendment WITH REASONABLE restrictions, so who decides what is reasonable? He does now. Thats scarey because he has shown no signs of being reasoable yet on anything.

Charlie, the bill was introduced by Rep Bobby Rush [D-IL] on 1-6-09. He's the only sponsor. Another anti-gun bill to watch is HR 257 from Sheila Jackson Lee [D-TX]. She is the sole sponsor of that one.

Two others we need to watch and hope for are HR 17 and HR 197, Citizen's Self Defense Act and National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act. They have 8 and 12 co-sponsors, respectively.

I think the SCOTUS ruling on the DC handgun ban slapped Obama upside the head pretty hard, and opened his eyes a little. He backed off saying much about guns after that. Too bad it didn't have the same effect on the anti-gun lawmakers.

I think James B is probably right.
