Is it just me or has the media pretty much stopped telling us how U.S. troops have died each day in Iraq & Afghanistan since Obama became President? It seems like the media has totally dropped the subject and Obama is getting a breather on what he decides to do over there.

The media is in the liberals back pocket. They used the control of information/propaganda to paint the Iraq situation as much worse than it actually was, and to paint the economy as much worse than it actually was, thereby causing people to stop spending, thereby actually worsening the economy, all to ensure the election of Obama. After years of only hearing about Bush's defeats, they will now only broadcast rosy, glowing reports of Obama's "successes". And the sheep and morons will follow....
USA Today gives a weekly list of troops killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. Other than that you dont hear much. If a Marine is accused of a war crime you can bet it will be big headlines for a couple days. But if that same guy wins the Navy Cross, you can bet itwill get a blurb on page 10, if it even makes the news.
Media has been pretty quiet since the surge worked and the recent Iraqi elections went reasonably well. The media probably doesnt feel much like covering Obama's exit strategy from Iraq because it doesn't seem much different from what Bush's folks were talking about.

Shooter, I agree that the media portrayed the economy in a much more dire situation than reality but how can you suggest they portrayed the war in Iraq as being much worse than it actually was? Were you there? The media could never paint a accurate picture of how hellish or dangerous that place really was. My Battalion of a little over 700 Marines had 204 wounded and 19 dead, so according to you how bad is that?

I appreciate your service. I didn't say, nor did I mean to imply, that it was never bad. But, that's all we ever got here was negative reporting. Are you saying it's still the same? That there has been no improvement? That it's still a hellish and dangerous place? My understanding is that there has been considerable improvement over the last couple of years, but, that has been virtually ignored.
I'm curious, when were you there and over how long a time period did your battalion suffer these casualties? My brother-in-law was a driver and dispatcher for Halliburton, charged with fuel delivery and logistics. He lost a bunch of guys as well...
Shooter, I was there for 7 months in 2005 and another7 monthsin 2006. The first time we had 189 wounded and 9 dead mostly from IED strikes. For the years of 2004, 2005 and 2006 most units were suffering about a 25-35 percent casualty rate. I agree with you that things have definitely gotten better in Iraq but that will only last as long as we have troops there. The people of Iraq are too corrupt and hate filled and as soon as we pull out they will go back to fighting each other. The Middle East will never be a stable region no matter what our politicians may think. I have been frustrated, disappointed and down right ticked off with the lack of media coverage of both wars in the last 2 years. The media, citizens and our government go through their every day life and forget that there are soldiers still fighting and dying overseas. We don"™t ever hear the good things that are being accomplished over there but as soon as there is a questionable shooting of a civilian, it is on the front page of every newspaper across our Nation. The media has always chosen what to cover and they put whatever spins on the facts to reinforce their agenda, gone are the days when the media reported just the fact with no opinions.

That is precisely the point I was trying to get to in my earlier post. Again, your sacrifices are truly appreciated.
