The task force will include members from the Departments of Treasury, Labor, Transportation, Commerce, and Energy, the National Economic Council, the White House Office of Energy and Environment, the Council of Economic Advisers and the Environmental Protection Agency, the official said.
....government run auto industry? Might be as good as the famous DMV ?
What will having a half dozen government agencies involved add to the price of a car? I suppose osama will create about fifty new government jobs to every auto company. Jobs wew will have to pay for forever.
The problem is that in his final days in office Bush was unwilling to make the hard decision as to what to do about the auto industry so he just kicked the can down the road a few months by giving GM and Chrysler $19 billion in TARP funds so they could survive just long enough to become his successor's problem. While this money was called a loan it is in fact a subsidy since there is essentially no chance of it ever being paid back.
President Obama has to make a decision now as to whether he is going to continue these enormous government subsidies indefinitely or instead force the automakers into bankruptcy within the next month or two. Whatever he decides it will have a profound impact on a lot of people and it is entirely appropriate that he is drawing on the advise of as many experts as possible to guide him in this decision.
Retro is "in" Just look at the Mustang, the Camaro, the Challenger. All with nice, powerful, efficient V-8's. Maybe when the Obama administration gets involved, since they'll be trying to wean us from all that carbon-based fuel, they'll bring back something smaller, like the Corvair...
All the more reason GM need to declare bankruptcy. I'm glad Ford said no to taking money.
