On Thursday, for example, crude oil closed just under $34 a barrel, its lowest point for 2009. But the national average price of a gallon of gas rose to $1.95 on the same day, its peak for the year. On Friday gas went a penny higher.
To drivers once again grimacing as they tank up, it sounds like a conspiracy. But it has more to do with an energy market turned upside-down that has left gas cut off from its usual economic moorings.
The price of gas is indeed tied to oil. It's just a matter of which oil.
But it is the overseas crude that goes into most of the gas made in the United States.
.....even if oil prices are low for Texas crude, it's the Saudi's oil that does it.[:'(]
RE: Crude oil is getting cheaper " so why isn't gas?
Just try and put together all the talk that has happened for the past couple of years, people are trying to fit the current prices into a box created by, I don't know, people who, for numerous reasons to spun the gouging when there has always been only one reason and for lack of a better word, greed. It makes all the excuses people have been told nothing more than they suspected they were, BS.
The BS is kind of one of the reason's people became so frustrated and who can blame them, being lied to with a straight face has a way of bugging people. Big oil blamed the Government for the cost of gas and then showed up with cash flowing from every pocket. People aren't that stupid.
Aredistribution of wealthclose to asmuch as our own government! How many billions last year alone? And people were supposed to trust that they were the good guys in the last election .
RE: Crude oil is getting cheaper " so why isn't gas?
It's the overseas oil that is being used for making gasoline, must be a lighter crude.
Thetexas crudeis heavier apparently, i am not sure about immediate offshore or canuck oil but the OPEC prices for oil is what sets gas prices ( apparently ).

Way too funny nodog. Coming from a guy who doesn't want to get his hands dirty begging formoney from the rich and would rather send his elected officials out there to do it. Yeah, there's greed alright, you need to just look into the mirror. Look real close and you'll see it on your face. Stop buying the fricking product and supporting the greed you detest so much. It's not that hard.
Fact is, we are with in that window of gas reformulation. Refineries are scrambling to get the new systems on line to supply the nation with what, 23 different mixes? States have raised their gas tax as well to make up for their budget short fall. My state boosted it $.06/gallon last year despite running a surplus. Hey, they found they could raid that trust fund as well. Go figure.

Just because you not one of the majority in the country who owns Big Oil, don't come complaining here on this forum for your stupidity. 60% of Americans own "Big Oil". You could have been one of them had you been a little more responsible. Instead, you choose to be "GREEDY" wanting something you didn't earn. How sad.
