Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Obama Considers Messing With U.S. Nuke Management

White House mulls Pentagon oversight for nuke weapons: report

***

I don't like this. Not just because I don't see a valid point to the transfer, but also because the Pentagon has its hands' full right now anyway, and the DOE seems to me the more competent producer of nuclear energy and nuclear weapons, even if the same personnel were working on various programs. Of all the things to mess with, our nukes?!

I don't see why we have nukes anymore. The world is a much safer place now. Everyone likes us now the Obama is in office. He should anouce the elimination of all nukes. I bet then Iran would sit down and talk with us.

Nuclear weapons development, testing and surety needs to be under DOD. The DOE has not always managed US nuclear weapons.TheAtomic Energy Commission was established to manage nukes after WWII. In 1974 theparanoid congress changed all that:

Quote:
By 1974, the AEC's regulatory programs had come under such strong attack that Congress decided to abolish the agency. Supporters and critics of nuclear power agreed that the promotional and regulatory duties of the AEC should be assigned to different agencies. The Energy Reorganization Act of 1974 put the regulatory functions of the AEC into the new NRC, which began operations on January 19, 1975; and placed the promotional functions within the Energy Research and Development Administration, which was later incorporated into the United States Department of Energy.
