SANTA CLARA, Calif. "“ Banks collecting billions of dollars in federal bailout money sought government permission to bring thousands of foreign workers to the U.S. for high-paying jobs, according to an Associated Press review of visa applications.
The dozen banks receiving the biggest rescue packages, totaling more than $150 billion, requested visas for more than 21,800 foreign workers over the past six years for positions that included senior vice presidents, corporate lawyers, junior investment analysts and human resources specialists. The average annual salary for those jobs was $90,721, nearly twice the median income for all American households.
You crack me up falcon. You know nothing about the details on this, you don't know what the qualifications for the positions, the job description or anything except foreigners. I bet if stoning ever came back in style you would push to the front of every line you could get into.[&:]

While I admit i do not know all the facts.. This statement alone speaks for itself..

Foreigners are attractive hires because companies have found ways to pay them less than American workers.
That's like hireing Mexicans to do the job in my opion. Good ol American workers are a discrace to some people because they want to invest in cheap labor as well as send money abroad..

No falcon you just don't get it. I don't look to my government to save me. I believe in the free market system(I wish we had one). If I wanted government running my life I would move to a country that did just that.
I work for a foreign company and have no problem with it. I have no problem locating my new manufacturing company outside of the US. I was talking with a good friend of mine the other night. You folks on this board who are all jacked up with buy American would be really shock if you knew how many stores you shop at that are foreign owned.

In an age of globalization, free trade, and transnational corporations, foreign workers can be invaluable to securing American business interests overseas. I'm sorry, but there's no shortage of Americans who know more about football than the economic climate in [insert country name here]. Good help is hard to find. And yes, foreign workers often tendto work harder for less money. That's an asset, IMHO.
Americans need to stop feeling sorry for themselves and start working their @$$es off to improve their own situation and that of their nation.

Some of us have been working towards other markets to try and help get by this stagnant economy.. Working our buts off hoping to get a glich in the market to help us survive. The part some fail to reconize is when newer and bigger companies start dumping their product out on the market to push the competition out of the way. It's hard for older plants to compete with these newer and bigger ones. That's not saying the workers are not out there, is it? It says to bad to you American workers that want more money and bennies. We will give it all to other countries instead. Markets here has been downsizing as well putting in new equipment to make these old machines run more efficent with less. Those new machines pay a much higher dollar for the top opperators and pay a lot less for the bottom line workers. It's a myth to say it is cheaper for them to do this for as far as labor is concerned. It is cheaper when they do not have the safety standards we have in place today tho. Also working conditions and ect.. It still does not say they are smarter over there when you have millions of workers loosing their jobs..
The high-tech worker argument aside, I'm not here to blame the American worker for the changing face of commerce.I'm saying that he/she had better face reality and deal with what we've got. Facts are that labor is cheaper, labor protections are weaker, and overhead costs are lower in many developing countries.
When some peasant-turned-machinist in Dongguan gets mangled by his equipment, market conditions allow for us to keep paying lower prices in spite of it. On the other hand, Amercans aren'tas desperate as the hundreds of millions of Chinese migrant workers looking to feed their family for the year. We're just going to have to find a new niche. High-tech manufacturing will always be some part of the US economy, but there are other things we're better at. We need to start adapting, and quickly.
