There is a new law before our government this session; HR 45, or the "Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009"³, is a sweeping change in the way firearms are sold and owned in the United States. Some of the highlights of the law:

* Firearms may only be owned by those possessing a valid license issued by the federal Attorney General. This license will contain the licensee's photograph, thumb print, address, and a unique license number. Possession of a firearm without a license would constitute a federal crime.
* Firearms may only be sold by federal firearms licensees to other license holders. This would put an end to person-to-person firearm sales.
* Firearms must be stored locked in a safe. If you have children, you may not be allowed to store weapons loaded, even in a safe. Failure to comply with guidelines on storage would result in the loss of your license.
* You must purchase the license for $25, payable with your application, directly to the Attorney General. There is no time limit or "shall-issue" clause. The Attorney General can simply ignore your request (and take your money).
* The bill is ex-post facto; this means that once the bill is passed and enacted, the laws will apply to guns you already own, as well as ones you will purchase in the future. This means that if you are a law abiding gun owner today, you will still have to get a license in order to avoid having your firearms confiscated.
* The law establishes a national database which tracks all firearms sales. This creates a national database of gun owners.
* Failing to update your address information, or otherwise notify the issuing office of your firearms license when you move, would constitute a felony
* In addition to the current requirement for background checks with the NCIS when purchasing a firearm on an ATF form 4473, there would be an additional requirement to check with the Attorney General's office to ensure that your license was still valid
* Possession of a firearm by a minor, being anyone under 18, even under your supervision, would become illegal

After reading the proposed law in its entirety, you can also research the Nazi Weapons Law of 1938. They bear a striking resemblance.

For those who didn't see this coming with an Obama presidency, two words:

dum az

Also, for all the hue and cry about loss of freedom and rights under the Bush administration, I am not aware I lost any rights. I smell the loss of my rights in the wind right now -- my rights to own any firearms (except at the capricious whim of a non-elected partisan official), my rights to own specific firearms (such as "assault weapons," similarly arbitrarily defined and likely to include any semi-automatic shotgun). Oh, no, Obama isn't anti-gun, he won't take our guns, he won't be inimical to our second amendment rights.

All I've got to say is I wasn't fooled, I sure as heck didn't vote for the guy.

At least we don't have to follow this bill.

some observations:

a: to those who screamed at the tops of their lungs that Osama would not take our guns away...
"walk into a crossfire"...we're better off without your dumass because when rights are lost,
they're gone forever.

b: how does such a federal bill seek to circumvent the prohibition against a federal registry of
firearms which is currently prohibited by law ? A federal registry of OWNERS is a de-facto
registration scheme and should be found to be illegal.

c: Will this law pre-empt state law ? or will it be imposed IN ADDITION to state firearms requirements ?

c: Which state is ceceeding from the union....I wanna 'join up' with them

just sent a letter to my congressman to vote no on this. everyone needs to let everyone that know about it. then have them contact the congressman or congresswomen to vote no on this. it is the only way we can have it defeated.

Goverment- no matter how big or small it is- is suppose to work for the ppl- not be the ppls keepers.

I know whats going on in my state polticaly pretty much- a democrate govener who has not much choicebut to support his party - including on a national level & as it is now- A party nationalywho does not have the best intrests of this state in mind or at heart on a national level( no matter what this state laws areor wedo or dont dolocaly). Federal laws trump all. O bamy did not win this state- but that dosnt matter much now does it..

Well govner can you say- Cutting your/ourour necks - for some poltical ideology that dosnt even exist but in ppls minds.
