Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Post Office May Cut Mail Delivery

More good news. The post office may cut one delivery day per week.

WASHINGTON "“ Massive deficits could force the post office to cut out one day of mail delivery, the postmaster general told Congress on Wednesday, in asking lawmakers to lift the requirement that the agency deliver mail six days a week. If the change happens, that doesn't necessarily mean an end to Saturday mail delivery. Previous post office studies have looked at the possibility of skipping some other day when mail flow is light, such as Tuesday.

Faced with dwindling mail volume and rising costs, the post office was $2.8 billion in the red last year. "If current trends continue, we could experience a net loss of $6 billion or more this fiscal year," Potter said in testimony for a Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs subcommittee.

Perfect example for those who say our manufacturiing job loss is due to outsourcing. Overwhelmingly job loss has to do with productivety growth and modernization. How many years have we've been using the term snail mail? That was the signal to the begining of the end of Good Ol'Pony Express. Email has hammered the US Mail System along with private industry Fedex and UPS. So this was already expected here in my household.

It won't bother me if they onlydeliver mail 4 days during the week. A 4 day work week would do wonders for most industry... save money, energy and improve efficiency. The 3 day weekends would be a plus.

A reply a good friend of mine made on the fox forum:

Quote:
Once a week would be fine with me and I could live with once a month. The junk mail people would save a bundle!
Now that I think about it, once a year would be good because the only thing I ever look for in the mail is birthday cards with money.
Now that I think about it again, never would be fine because any birthday cards with money are picked off long before they get to me by postal workers that specialize in stealing cash from birthday cards.
Hmmm. It seems the mail service is used only by the junk mail industry.
I vote dump the postal service.

Won't work for most industries. Many if not most of them work 5-6 days a week, 24 hours a day, three shifts per day.

YES OVERWHELMINGLY!

May I suggest you study the cycle and prove it either true or false. I will leave you with this. When you pick up your home phone, do you like being able to dial locally or long distance or would you prefer to have an operator pick up the phone and connect you? How about the big shipyards? Did you know robots have replaced dozens of welders?

Here is some good reading and I've looked at the numbers and they are real.
