Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Government at it's best

Here locally, a couple has turned their passion into a business after 15 years of playing. They decided to go into the Winery business full time not part time. They built their building with the blessing of the county and all the permits, so they thought. When the final inspection was completed, the county noticed they issued them the wrong permit, an agriculture permit instead of an commercial permit. Turns out, because the building is permitted for ag instead of commercial, it won't work because they need to be able to offer wine tasting there. So after hundreds of thousands of dollars invested, the county is going to tear down the building and rebuild itwith a commercial permit (because they screwed up) so they can have a wine tasting room. One has to wonder why the paper work couldn't be changed after the fact in order to save tax payer dollars.

Sorry, wish I could post the story link but it's not available on line.

Yep, a true stroke of genius on the part of the county. Guess they never thought of justgiving the winery a variance. Here in OK we have a budding wine industry. Problem is that the state will not allow them to sell their product in OK.

We also have a brew pub that wants to expand into the distilling business for their pub. They are allowed to do it with the proper permits but must sell everything they distill to the state and then buy it back from them before they canserve it.

Also on that note, we have state run ABC stores that are loosing money all over the place and they are the only game in town. I would like to know why in areas that have private liquor stores and multiple stores all over the place (even directly across the street from each other)and they make money whenthe state with a single store can't?

Every time the governmenttries to run a businss enterprise they lose money, never fail.

OK no longer has state run liquor stores. One must go to a liquor store to get beer that is over 3.2 percent. About 20 years ago we had a referendum that would have changed this. However, the liquor store owners and the WCTU types teamed up and defeated it.

Couldn't they just apply for a permit to build an addition, or detached structure, for their wine tasting room? Gotta be cheaper than rebuilding.

The way the story reads is that they are tearing down the building and building the exact build back under a commercial permit.

Are you crazy? That would be way too simple.
