the way tv is broadcasted. I'm not buying a new tv and don't really care if any stations make it into my house. All the better if it doesn't.
The news headline is "Republicans block" whatever it is. Does anybody really care? Inform me on what evil or good the republicans are saving me from. I don't get it. Of all the things...
I can't believe the gov't subsidized however much it was to buy tv digital converters for people...I think it amounted to $25 or $50 off per person/box....1 per household....
Sometimes I can't believe the things our gov't will pay for and other times I can't believe the things they don't cover...
This is one thing there should be no rebate for etc...
Yes,I do care how our TV signals are broadcast. The old analog way takes up too much bandwidth when compared to the digital tv signal as well as being poorer quality. The government is doing the right thing by mandating this change over to enable them to recapture bandwidth and re-auction it off for more services provided to the people through private investment. As for the converter boxes and vouchers, no way should we fund these things.

The decision to go digital should have been left up to the market, not the goob, the broadcasters have been edging toward digital for years. Once the goob forced them to go digital they had to spend millions to do so, and even more to inform the public of the switch, and you can just bet that we'll all pay for it in the long run through higher rates. If you have cable or a small dish you had digital access all along, the television manufacturers would've gradually integrated digital tv sets into the market so as not to inconvenience the consumer, and the transition would've been smooth and easy. BTW, if tv is your only form of entertainment, and you somehow can't afford a new tv, then find something else to amuse yourself and quit whining about the switch. The entire country had to shell out for converter welfare for the few jackasses who won't switch wthout a handout, and the entire broadcast industry also suffered because a few people couldn't or wouldn't save a few pennies a day toward buying a new boob tube. You could collect the price of that new set by trading in aluminum cans for awhile if you really had to, so there's no excuse for not being ready by now.

We the people own the air waves so we are told. The difference is now the goob can lease the same airspace, ie bandwidth to more private firms and now more services can be delivered to everyones home. It's that simple. Why punish america because few choose to live life in the past?

Just reminds me of the "box" in one of the Batman movie's. Sounds to me like someone came up with a new technology and knew people wouldn't buy it so they lobbied the Gov, the right Gov officials to force it on people. Not that that's anything knew.
The killer is the Republicans are putting their foot down on this one. Of all the thingsmost don't need some concern over. Sounds just like the crap that's go on the past 8 years.
FM or someone else, will the new digital signal lead to better reception from portable TV devices? I have an old Sony Watchman, butdidn't get great reception on most channels. I wonder if the new signal will make portable TVs much better???

Yes
Think about old cell phones vs. the new ones. The first cells were analog, had poor reception and required a lot of battery power for transmitting so they didn't last long between charging. The new ones are digital, use a fraction of the power to transmit and lasts days on a single charge with a very small battery.

Well for my situation anyways-there is no improvment on my old sets, with the newmagic box & the old antenni i have now& with a new antenni & the magic box- the number of channels recived have gone down 75 % or so( too just 1 channel). So for me anyways- so far i dont call that a improvement in reception( could have a bit to do with my location etcthought to)
