Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Republican US Rep. Wants Football Break

Quote:
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Thursday's championship football game between No. 2 Florida and No. 1 Oklahoma is obviously a big game, but big enough to shut down Congress?

Rep. Cliff Stearns hopes so. Stearns, a Republican from Ocala, wrote to U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Tuesday asking her to move votes scheduled for Thursday evening and Friday so House members from Florida and Oklahoma can go to the Bowl Championship Series national title game.

Maybe I should ask my company if I can come in late Thursday night so that I can watch the whole game instead of only the first half.

It will be interesting to see if Nancy Pelosi, Democrat, accedes to this request of a Republican representative. Of course, it may affect more than just the vote of the one Republican representative.

This is the national championship game, involving the flagship university of Oklahoma (I don't know where the Florida Gators stand -- is this the top public university in Florida? I apologize for my ignorance). It doesn't bend my mind too much to think that it might be a good thing -- a show of respect -- for representatives/senators to attend the game.

I'm all for it!! The less time congress spends in session, the fewer things they can screw up!
For that matter, I don't think the senate should open until all these contested seats are filled... (that could take months hahaha).
