Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default NCLB

With all this talk of the hated NCLB program, I was wondering from teachers on this forum how we can fix the education system.

From an regular smoe like myself, I see the teachers union as the big problem. This crap of tenure needs to be done away with. We need ways to reward truely gifted teachers and show others the way out. I would estimate 50% of teachers do not have the gift of being able to teach others.

Two of the best teachers I ever had went the administration route, and ended up waisting their talent being principle or vice principle at different elementary schools. There is a huge building on the east side of Houston with a sign that says HISD administration building. I always wonder why they need such a gigantic building, and what the heck goes on in there. I don't live in Houston, but I can't help to wonder when I drive by that building.

Somehow, someway, teachers that are worth their salt should be compensated fairly. I personally don't think teachers unions accomplish that.

Maybe Burnie and some others in the know could give some good ideas.
