Default Will Obama raise taxes on ammunition, when, how much?

I recall hearing a 500% increase in tax, but haven't heard anything lately. Any ideas would be appreciated, as myself and I'm sure others would like to stock up!

I fear Obama is going to attack guns to appease his liberal base. He has pissed them off by changing boatsbefore he even takes office, so he has got to find a carrot to throw to the base, and I believe that carrot will be gun controle.

Obama cannot raise taxes on anything without congressional approval. Obama will be too busy in 09with the tanked economy to do anything with gun control. If he does it in 10 he stands a good chance of losing congress.

I don't know. A liberals fix for a bad economy is more taxes. Plus, it only takes a small group of anti-gunners to draft the bill. Congress will pass it. It will take Obama seconds to sign it. I don't see it taking any time away from his agenda.

Like I said, Obama will support a bill and sign it to appease the liberal base. The cards are in order for more strict gun controle, and even more so, to make these things perminate. Obama will not buck it, since he is angering his base by not following through on all his other promises.

And what will the extra tax revenue from gun owners go toward? Up until now, much of it has gone to conservation and management of game animals, etc. Will Obama send this money to low income people?

The only thing that comforts me at this point was a newsletter someone in this forum posted from the NRA. It said that the situation in congress isn't as bad as it seems, because some of our pro gun republicans were replaced by pro gun democrats. Sometimes its easy to label every democrat as a far left anti gun liberal, but not all of them are like that.

Exactly. The votes are not in the houseto pass any such tax on ammo. The votes are not in the house to pass an AWB. There are lots of pro-gun Democrats in congress. The firstAWB passed the house by one vote. That vote was the retiring house minority leader, a Republican. 77 house Democrats voted against the AWB and 38 Republicans voted for it.

The votes are in the US senate to pass an AWB. They have been there for decades. In 2004 the senate voted to extend the AWB.Ten senate Republicans voted for it. Several Democrats, including Harry Reid, voted against it.

Obama outlined a plan for a 500% tax increase on both ammo and firearms - but that was back when he was still a junior senator in Illinois.

The fact is - he is the most vicious anti-gun president-elect we have ever had! [:@]

Ammo now
Federal Premium Vital-shok 165gr in .308 (20 / box) -------- $39.99
(Current 11% federal excise taxincluded in salesprice ----- $3.96)
**Actual realistic price (w/o any federal excise tax) --- $36.03**

Ammo with Obama's 500% tax increase (500% increase on current 11% federal tax)
Federal Premium Vital-shok 165gr in .308 (20 / box) --- $55.83
(500% tax increase on ammo ($3.96 x 5) -------------- $19.80)
**Actualprice would still be (w/o Obama's 500% taxincrease) --- $39.99**

In a nutshell: Instead of paying $39.99 for a box of .308 rounds, you'd be paying $55.83! [:@]

Now if Obama somehow, someway, wants to include a 500% tax increase on firearms, let's explore that too....

Rifle now
Ruger M77 in a .270, walnut finish, blued, no scope (MSRP) ----------- $779.00
(Current 11% federal excise taxon firearms included in salesprice ----- $77.20)
**Actual realistic price (w/o any federal excise tax) ------------------ $701.80**

Rifle with Obama's 500% tax increase (500% increase on current 11% federal tax)
Ruger M77 in a .270, walnut finish, blued, no scope (MSRP) -------------- $1165.00
(500% tax increase on firearms ($77.20 x 5) -------------------------------- $386.00)
**Actualprice would still be (w/o Obama's 500% taxincrease) --- $779.00**

In a nutshell: Instead of paying $779.00 for a Ruger .270, you'd be paying $1165.00!![:@]
