My mother was having a discussion with one of her fellow teachers the other day and the teacher, who is African American, made a good point and (not verbatim) it went something along these lines...
"I get just as frustrated with those who said they did vote for Obama because he is black as I do with those who don't vote for him because he is black. Many of my African American friends say they voted for him because he represents getting out of slavery and how far blacks have come, but Obama doesn't represent getting out of slavery in any way. His father was from Kenya and his mother was white, he has no ties to slavery what so ever in his heritage. Blacks who voted for him
because of this, in all reality, just voted for him because he shared their skin color."
Very interesting point I thought, especially since it was brought up by an African American woman.
To me, it is a no-brainer that folks will tend to vote for their "own kind." No surprise that JFK got a hell of a lot of the Catholic vote, especially Irish Catholic. If Bill Richardsonever makes it into the main Presidential race and starts giving speeches in Spanish, I think that it is safe tosay that he with have a lock on theHispanic population.

I think that attitude it typified by the phone call that was linked in this forum some time ago. The caller was talking to, or leaving a message for the creditor who was repossessing her car. She said something to the effect:
"We aren't rich like y'all are, but we got Obama now..."
If Obama keeps drifting to the middle, eventually some light bulbs are gonna start going off in the hood as folks realize that eveerything from utilities to lottery tickets are not gonna be free under Obama.

RE: Voted For/Against Obama Due To Color?
It is obvious more blacks voted for Obama, than whites voted agianst him. I have black family members, and a few insisted on voteing for him because of his color, and very few voted agianst him. They will not hide the fact.
