Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Self defense and the Bible....

I made a comment to my State Senator when I was bashing him in an email, for not voting for gun owners on an amendment on the " Child Endangerment Bill SB1" in here in Ga.

I made the comment " God given right of self defense" when discussing hidden trigger lock implications.

His reponse was fist with a phone call but I was not home. I didnt call him back and yesterday I got a letter from him.

Boy did I piss him off! He served our country, bla bla bla........Then he questioned if I served on a battle field cause he did in Korea ......bla bla bla....
He' s never voted against freedom like I accused him of.

Then he gets into my statment of " The God given right of self defense"

Quote:
Your statement, (" The God given right of self defense" ) is not an accurate statement. If you can find that statement in your Bible, I would appreciate knowing what Book and Chapter. The Consititution of the United States of America (not God) grants us the right to bear arms and defend ourselves ( family). I volunteered to serve during the Korean War and to defend these rights. Although I am 72, I am willing to serve again, to liberate Iraq and maintain our freedom.

SB1 is a child endangerment bill, it is not a trigger lock or lock your gun away bill. I trust the NRA and know they do a good job. The NRA did not have a position on this bill, (see enclosed letter from NRA.).

Does anybody remember where in the Bible self defense is discussed or mentioned.

Please help if you can

Exodus 22:2, If a thief breaks into your house, and you kill him, you have done no wrong.

Luke 11:21, When a strong man, armed, guards his own house, all his goods will be safe.

It not just a few places where you find it is not only allowed, but we' re admonished to protect the innocent, the helpless, children and even strangers who are being attack by evil men.

Psalms 35 - " My whole being will exclaim, " Who is like you, O LORD ? You rescue the poor from those too strong for them, the poor and needy from those who rob them."

Proverbs 24
" 11 Rescue those being led away to death;
hold back those staggering toward slaughter.
12 If you say, " But we knew nothing about this,"
does not he who weighs the heart perceive it?
Does not he who guards your life know it?
Will he not repay each person according to what he has done?"

Jesus was amazed at the great faith of the Centurion whose servant Jesus healed. The Centurion was in his days was an army officier in charge of hundreds of soldier, who carried their swords and spears ideally to punish wrong and protect the innocent.

Obviously, that was not always the case. But ideally that is what those who have power, authority and weapons are to use them to protect the innocent, with humility and with the understanding that one day we all will give an account. We' re not to use our weapons or power in anger or to seek revenge.

Detrich Bonhoffer' s change from a pacifist leading up to WWII to being part of a group who tried, unsuccessfully to kill the Nazi dictator to end the carnage of that time, demonstrates this.

The bible teaches us to take care of our own.

1 Timothy 5:8
But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.

When it tells us to provide for our own that means take care of them not only in material needs but also their safe being.
