Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

The guy who called it in 1999

''From the perspective of many people, including me, this is another thrift industry growing up around us,'' said Peter Wallison a resident fellow at the American Enterprise Institute. ''If they fail, the government will have to step up and bail them out the way it stepped up and bailed out the thrift industry.''

These arethe ones thatgot it rolling downhill. Then in 2000 congress sneaked a 268 page bank deregulation rider on to a must have spending bill. The 2000 one is the law that brought youcredit default swaps. These things are very shaky and totally unregulated. There are 45-65 trillion in CDSs out there based on 6 trillion in assets.

Prophecy? If this guy knew it who else did and if they did was it an omen or opportunity?

Taking over something like this then must have seemed very profitable. 70 billion for something that could be worth trillions along with government control for those inclined that way. Hmmm. I'll remember this guys comments.Unfortunetly when history sorts this out I'll be dead.
