I have been trying to figure out why Obama would appoint Clinton to this position and I've come up with three, what I feel are, sensible reasons, not necessarily in order of importance.
1- McCain beat him to the punch on the diversity angle by picking a female as the VP nominee. Appointing Clinton to this high Cabinet position give him credibility in the diversity department.
2- Obama has expressed a great interest in some sort of national health care program. If Clinton is in the Senate, she can dust off her old program from her days as Slick Willie's First Lady and steal Obama's thunder. She can't do that as Secretary of State.
3- Clinton is in good favor with the pro-Israel lobby. Appointing Clinton to that position will tend to deflect the suspicions of him as favoring Muslim interests in the Middle East.
Now the question in my mind is why would she accept?
What do you guys think?
