Default Why Clinton for Secretary of State?

I have been trying to figure out why Obama would appoint Clinton to this position and I've come up with three, what I feel are, sensible reasons, not necessarily in order of importance.

1- McCain beat him to the punch on the diversity angle by picking a female as the VP nominee. Appointing Clinton to this high Cabinet position give him credibility in the diversity department.

2- Obama has expressed a great interest in some sort of national health care program. If Clinton is in the Senate, she can dust off her old program from her days as Slick Willie's First Lady and steal Obama's thunder. She can't do that as Secretary of State.

3- Clinton is in good favor with the pro-Israel lobby. Appointing Clinton to that position will tend to deflect the suspicions of him as favoring Muslim interests in the Middle East.

Now the question in my mind is why would she accept?

What do you guys think?

If I was Obama, I wouldpick Hillary and replace herjust as soon as I could. It is fully within his power to do so if she is Sec. of State. That gets her out of the Senate, and out of his inner circle. Of course she could run against him in 2012, but she will have to find a job before then. I think if he really wanted Hillary close by his side he would have picked her as VP.

If Hillary is Sec. Of State,Obama will have to wake up everyday and make sure he is the one wearing the pants.

The deal was made so that she and Bill would support his campaign instead of tryig to ruin it.

I thinkObama would be better off going to New York and making a deal with an Italian garbage collector.

I think you are out of your mind.

We have already seen what Obama is doing. If McCain won, Cheney and Rove would have picked the cabinet and told us about it in January and all McCain would have said is "Don't worry we are going to win the war, and Sarah would have really had to go shopping". The Rep's would not have been making a single move to improve this country. The past 8 years has proven that!!!!!

It puts her a mere three heartbeats away from the Presidency. Obama, Biden and Pelosi need to watch their backs. Accidents happen a lot around the Clintons...

Considering the low approval rating of the Democtratic dominated Congress, and Dems (Remember Barney "We've Got to Roll the dice" Frank?) culpability in the current financial crisis, the Reps are not alone in failing to improve things in recent years.

But as for Hilary, I would have thought that a position like that might have been negotiated in order to get the full support of her and Bill in the election. If that was the case, however, one would think that the appointment would have been made official pretty early with out all the foot dragging and double speak about her taking it.

Yep, everyone talks about the low approval rating of congress. Every congress person except the one who represents the complainersdistrict is a scumbag. That is why they are almost always re-elected.
