Why would the oil companies do this? They owe the big 3 nothing. Besides, won't there still be autos if the big three weren't around anymore? I say let the unions bailout Detroit. They have money to invest and aren't they the ones with most to loose?

I still think we need to split the country in half so FM can live in his world without unions and the northern half can still work the way they have with organized labor..
In reality to it all if you were to take away all the environmental laws as well as all the safety standards set by the industries here most manufacturing jobs would be able to compete. So lets throw all this stuff away after all China doesn't have to worry about those none and you can see and smell it everywhere over there. So lets do what's right and make a level playing field.. I know you are against this idea FM but that's the way it has got to be..

Why would the oil companies do this?
Because they benifited from all those years the big 3 did nothing to improve gas milage ???Hence the slepping together.They made billions off of that so now that they are in trouble should'nt they lend a helping hand instead of the ol taxpayer? Just thinking out loud here.

I don't agree Rick. Check out the mpg ratings on similiar vehicles made by any of the manufacturers. For example take the trucks. Compare a Toyota Tundra or Nissan Titan to the Ford F150 or Chevy Silverado, at least the same. Compare the Toyota Tacoma with V-6 to the Ford Ranger or now defunct S-10 or Colorado/Canyon. Tacoma's mpg ratings are worse.
