Default GM Cuts 100,000 from healthcare benefits

Retirees of GM who have had healthcare provided by GM will be cut next year sometime the company announced recently.

Any of you board members affected by this?

Nope. I have been making plans for my retirement and med care afterwards ever since I started working a real job. I pay for my insurance right now, and will have to after I retire.

My employer pays my health insurance but I pay for my children's out of pocket. My wife's is paid from an "allowance" by her employer, essentially part of her pay going to pay her health ins.

So, in my family, we have a mixture of funding sources for our health ins.

Now, the kicker is this, no matter who your health ins is with or how you pay for it, any company can cancel your health ins at anytime they like - they can give you the boot for no reason at all.

True, the only thing that can save your butt is the Cobra law. But it has limitations too.

So what? It's a two way street. I'm free to no longer work for my employer at anytime. So what's your point?

It's called the free market. If that employer wants to attract the best employees, it will not drop its health benefit.

I just don't see what liberals have against freedom...

By using the word "kicker" you made no negative implication? Sorry. It reads that way.

Here's the "kicker"[:@]Your response to 100,000 people loosing something they need and were promised is met with a calus response. What possible reason could you have for giving it?

This is not called the free market and freedom doesn't include sticking it to the people who built your company. The forum rules prevent me from saying what this kind of thing really is.

What a bunch of crap and at the same time they are begging for the same people to bail them out. Nothing but blackmale.

Since the new administration is so pro law/suit I'm sure some of these guys are being fitted for orange jumpsuits. I hope they enjoy the holidays.

Eto, can you not see the contradiction in this posture? Do you really think our "free market" operates within a vacuum?

Good grief, I only wish the above were just as simple as you paint it.
