Default why all the worry about polar bears?

Shouldn't they adapt and evolve into new improved animals? Has there been any evidence of them turning yet?

Evolution deals with the natural cycles, if we're altering things faster than ever could occur naturally its hard for other animals to "keep up"

Notice the word "if". We're not and there are plenty of polar bears around today. We have been good stewards of the land and they have seen their number swell from 5k to over 20k since the early sixties. Secondly, the do adapt very well. Have you ever seen them in zoos across the nation?

Yep, global warming is being treated as a myth by the naysayers. Sowas acid rain: That's why some of my favorite trout streams have been ecologically dead for decades.

wahoohunter, still no proof we are altering anything. For every anti study I will counter w/ a Pro study. I still beleive we lead the way in environmental standards, protection and positive environmentalquality living situations. You cannot make us (USA) the bad guys on this one! Until all countries are on a scale w/us on environmaental issues and legislation, we need to stand pat on a pretty good record.

The lack ofice has already affectedareas up in Nunavut, Canada, the bears have rerouted themselves thru certainvillages, townsand the locals are reporting up to 7 bears at a time wandering through. Traditional bear migration routes to and fromfeeding grounds haven't frozen up yet.

Also reports of the polar bears fighting, killing and eating each other because they are so stressed and desperate.

The Government has decided that a polar bear friendly Tim Horton's drive thru is what is needed, with a polar bear diet specific menu as well as coffee for the locals.....lol

Higher temperatures have caused thewater to freeze later in the year and thaw earlier. In the past 20 years, the length of time thewater is frozen has shortened by three weeks. The bears are off balanceas the seals ( primary food source ) are usually caught when they surface through the ice at breathing holes. Seals are faster swimmers than the bears in open water.
