Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Has everyone gone home since it's Friday afternoon?

I'll give you my take (you knew I would ). I think the author overhypes it for the most part. The battles with Pelosi and southern Democrats is nothing but purely speculation at this point, IMO. The incident after the Bush meeting is eye-rolling but not unexpected. What bothers me the most is his dealings with Poland and Russia. Obviously the job of every president and those who carry the nation's torch in the state department is to appease our allies and the countries that are lukewarm towards us, but this seems to me to be yet another example of Obama's glaring inexperience on foreign policy, and he's shown a lot of them already during the campaign. At this point, I'd prefer him to appoint someone experienced as the secretary of state, and let them handle all of our business with our allies right now, while he sits back and gains some experience in how the world works.

If Obama is smart he will even forget that the terms "gun" or "assault weapon" exist. Nothing will shoot him in the foot faster than trying to play games with guns when that was not really part of his platform.

I don't think he will. Most politicians (regardless of part ID) are nothing if not egotistical, and it's a great blow to the ego to have to give up something you've wanted to accomplish.

We all expected (or should've expected) that a new AWB would come about. The more interesting question is whether the "new" AWB goes further -- and if so, how much so -- than the '94 AWB and whether even more aggressive gun control measures are tackled.

Just judging from what Obama had said and done from his years in government dating back to his days in the state senate, he was one of the most anti-gun presidential candidates in a long time. Too many people bought in to what he said in the campaign, and even came on here and tried to convince everyone that Obama wasn't interested in gun control measures. I always say forget about campaign rhetoric and pay attention to a politician's past. And the same was true about McCain, BTW. These politicians seldom change as much as they'd like to have us believe.

i sent a email to my state senator Russ Findgold and this it the response i got back from him. he knows that gun right in wisconsin if very important to the state ecom. cause of hunting is so big in our great state. i thought when i was a young kid that everyone got out of school during the week of thankgivening for hunting. lol. so here is Senator Findgold's email back to me.

Thank you for contacting me regarding the right to bear arms and various proposals for gun control. I appreciate hearing from you.
I believe the Second Amendment guarantees an individual right to bear arms, including for self defense, hunting and sport. I oppose measures that seek to unreasonably limit this right, including gun licensing requirements and a handgun ban. As a State Senator, I cosponsored a state constitutional amendment to establish the right to bear arms in the Wisconsin constitution. As a private citizen, I was pleased to vote for the 2003 state of Wisconsin constitutional amendment that guarantees the rights of all Wisconsinites to hunt, fish and trap game.

I feel strongly that the Second Amendment provides a core constitutional right and should be protected. I support the right to bear arms for lawful purposes -- for hunting and sport and self-protection. Millions of Americans own firearms legally and we should not take action that tells them they are second class citizens or that their constitutional rights are under attack.

As a member of the United States Senate, I will continue to carefully review all gun control measures that come before the Senate. I voted against a March 2004 amendment reauthorizing the ban on a certain kind of semi-automatic weapons because I have come to believe that this ban was largely symbolic and arbitrary. I supported legislation that permits retired law enforcement officers to carry a concealed firearm, and, after the tragic events of September 11, 2001, I supported legislation that permits commercial airline pilots to carry firearms in the cockpit.

However, measures directed at keeping guns out of the hands of criminals make an important contribution to fostering safer communities and a more stable society. I will continue to give full consideration to measures that do not conflict with the rights guaranteed in the United States Constitution.

Thank you again for contacting me. I hope you will feel free to do so in the future on this or any other issue of concern to you.

in '94 he voted against the AWB. and has voted for gun right most of the time.

Hold on to our hats and try to make it through this administration is all we can do. People wanted change...but I dont really think they reallized how much they were gonna get. Id still really love to know where the majority of the campaign money came from.

I do think Pelosi will be his biggest nightmare. Lets hope he pisses off the Blue Dog Dems right off the bat as we need them desparately if we wish to stop any new gun legislation.

Times could get bad in this country as the fairy tale policies are implemented and crammed down our throats.
