Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Closing Guantanamo (sp?)

SoI just read that one of Obama's first moves as president may be to shut down the American prison on Cuban soil. I guess I really don't understand why we would do this. Are there not a million more important things to deal with? We have a place to put our top prisoners of war and we are just gonna close it down? Can we really trust other countries with our terrorist prisoners? As far as I know Guantanamo has never had an escapee problem. If it ain't broke....don't fix it....Can someone tell me what is broke here?

i don't like Obama or most of what he stands for. However, i'm with him on this one. There was never any need for that damned place to begin with. Gitmo became a lightning rod that damaged our relationship with many other countries of the world.

There was not problem doing it the old fashioned way like they did in WWII. A speedy trial followed by execution orprison worked then and it would have worked in the 21st century.

Cheney and company liked Gitmo because they could do what they wanted there. They really never cared much about what our allies think.

Actually most of the Gitmo "detainees" have been released. Several havesubsequently been killed or recaptured fighting in Afghanistanand Iraq. The Saudi government was successful in pressuring the US to release dozens of Saudis held at Gitmo.Saudi sent them to Islamic "re-education" classes and then turned tnem loose. Some of them were later killed in Saudi while fightingfor alQueda.

Just transfer them to Angola prison. After a couple weeks there, then suddenly Gitmo will not seem likesuch a bad idea.

I don't really know what to think. I just thought it would be a good topic to debate. What happens to the current prisoners? Is it better just to kill all the prisoners? Is it better to keep them alive? Is it of benefit to have them there as barganing chips? Could we still get infromation from them?A lot of questions....
