Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Any one want to buy a farm

I was in Lubbock Texas this weekend for the big game. (Get your guns up Red Raiders, wooooo hoooooo, way to spank those Cowboys). While there, I was talking with a long time family friend. He told me he was going to sale his farm. This is a family farm that his Great Grandfather farmed, his Grandfather, his Dad, and now him. Its about 6000 achers which has produced cotton, sorghrum, and alfalfa well. He fears the new environmental regulations are going to kill his profit margin. He has been told he will be hit with Obama's Carbon tax, as well as a capt. gains tax, and new environmental regulations. I have heard of the Carbon taxand thecapt. gains tax, but have not heard of these new environmental regulations, so im not sure what he is talking about. But he is serious and put his land on the market and will sale as soon as he gets his last cotton crop in. Has anyone else heard of this?

Wish I had a small fortune to spend on it.[&:]

I haven't heard much on the way of regulations, but I think the next farm bill will have some drastic cuts, and cotton will probably be the hardest hit. But it needs to be. The demand for that much cotton just isn't there, and we are spending a fortune subsidizing irrigated crops in an area where water is becoming scarce. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

As far as a carbon tax, I have a hard time visualizing taxing an operation that sequesters more carbon than it produces. It IS the government, so it could happen I guess?

I don't mind complaining about taxes, but I don't see capital gains taxes putting him out of business. As the name implies, capital gains taxes are on gains, so you don't pay them unless you are making money.
