Yes, the ban on drilling expired without being renewed. However, the day Obama get's sworn in, he can sign a new ban on drilling. Let's hope he do the right thing and ban it.

How exactly do executive orders work?[&:] Pardon my ignorance. If the drilling ban already expired, how is Obama expanding a law that's suppose to be in effect?
You have two co-equal branches of government who each can decide to ban drilling on federal property.

If he blocks drilling, then the perceived supply will go down, driving prices up again. The actual supply isn't as important as the perceived supply in setting a selling price.
We had something like this happen here. There was a massive natural gas discovery (Haynesville Shale) a few years ago. The drilling process was so expensive as to prohibit exploration. When gas prices went up, drilling companies were buying mineral rights right and left. When the market found out how much gas there is here, the perceived supply skyrocketed, lowering gas prices. Now it isn't worth drilling again.

RE: Executive Orders
Obama has already said it is priority 1. He is going over ride Bush.
Now for all you Obama supporters, get ready to strap it on. Your candidate stated he was going to "force " us into alternatives by increasing gas prices. He supported Rangles plan. Now if you believed all his other promises, why not believe this one?

It was said on the news just this morning that one of his first Executive Orders...his first day in office would be to lift the restriction on stem-cell research.
