Iran would lose troops by the thousands during the Iran/Iraq war hitting Iraqui positions, especially in the circle defenses around Basra and its canals. They sent in kids, some as young as 9 years old (just big enough to hoist an ak-47) and they died with a plastic key around their neck. The key to heaven. It was a long and costly war and the Iranians prevailed. We did not take Iraq in Gulf War I because Saddam in fact kept stability of sorts in that region.

Well, things changed and we went in and eliminated Saddam Hussein. Soon we will leave, and the new order, which is predominantly shiite, wants us gone as well. My estimate is that it will be easier for them to clean house. I believe that they will buddy up to the shiite regime in Iran. Back to a happy little empire there.

al Maliki and his cohorts are already preparing for some sort of unification with Iran. Many ofIraq's current political wheels and religious leaders were exiles in Iran during the Saddam regime.They have very close ties to the current Iranian government.
