Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default How about this idea for taxation

With the idea of making everything "fair" or "evening things out" how about we tax the poor? We've paid their bills for how long now? I think it's time for some reparations! Talk about motivation to not be poor anymore.

I can hear them now. "Man, I'm getting the hell taxed out of me! I better go make some more money so I can get out of this Low Income tax bracket. I'm tired of paying everyone's bills." Role reversal can be a good thing. At least in this scenario.

That would work as well as wringing water from a rock. What part of poor don't you understand?

Yeah...this is sooooo true. How would you collect it, when most of these people do not work or have reportable income...

Don't like it. If you invest money back into your business and create jobs then it is taxed, but if you hoard it and put it in a savings account it isn't taxed. It kind of slows capitalism in a way. It almost discourages spending which drives the economy if it's a spending tax like it says.

I guess my thinking is that people want to tax liquor and tobacco because they want to discourage you from doing them because it's bad for you and potentially others. I would like to discourage people from being poor as it is bad for them because they are dependent on other people's money to provide things they need and it's bad for other people for the inverse reason. The poor are dependent on their money. You eliminate the dependency and promote wealth and prosperity and discourage laziness. The only problem is when the economy takes a dump. Maybe a tax diversion plan as well kind of like the credit card deal where if you lose your job you can delay payments for a certain period. Same type of thing. I said it last night to a coworker as a joke but the more I thought about it the more I dig it.

If you think of it like training 2 dogs to do the same tricks I guess it explains it better (for people who don't get where I'm coming from). You have 2 treats. You ask them both to shake. Dog #1 does, dog #2 doesn't. You can't give both treats to dog #2 in hopes that he'll eventually get with the program. What will more likely happen is dog #1 will start to not shake as it appears that the way to get treats is to not do what you're asking. Then you have twice as many disobedient dogs, whereas if dog #1 shook and dog #2 didn't and you gave both treats to dog #1 then dog #2 would probably think that the way to get a treat or even 2 would be to mimic the behavior of dog #1. Then suddenly you have 2 good dogs. Instead of dragging dog #1 down to the level of dog #2 you elevate dog #2 to the level of dog #1.

Well, banks will make you pay overdraft fees, late fees, low balance fees on some checking accounts, whereas if you have more money they'll give you more with interest. If you don't have money they don't care, somehow you still have to pay it, right? I understand poor, dude, I've been there. I'm sure as hell not rich now. Somehow collection companies operate. You know they aren't just taking things from rich people. If they don't have an income then either they are dealing drugs or doing things illegally or they just won't have any money. I'm pretty sure they'll get money somehow.

It was more the principal of reversing the trend than practicality. More to prove the idiocy in the ideology of giving things to the poor. There are almost always exceptions to any rule or law. It's the principal, not the practice.

Are you sure about that? The other day I was at the dentist having my teeth cleaned , I have dental ins. that I pay premiums for and still had to pay a 5$ co pay. A beautiful hispanic woman, about 30 yo w/ 6 six kids was in front of me on line, she had a NYS benefits (welfare) card in her hand, she paid nothing. I also noticed she had a very hi tech and probably expensive cell phone, a lexus car key on her keychain, and all her kids had new nikes.

If thats poor, I want the job.
