i didn't stay up late enough last night to find out, i was sick to my stomach when obama won and i just turned it off. do the democrats have a majority now in the house and senate and congress? if so that means the liberals now have a free rein to pass whatever they want in the next four years

what exactly do you mean by we can't stop a republican filibuster? i'm eighteen and i don't know much about politics sorry
In the Senate, it takes 60 votes to get a bill out of committee. At that point, the Senate votes yes or no on whether to actually pass the bill. If the Republicans retain at least 41 seats, they can hopefully block some of the more egregious crap that the Democrats have in store for us...
At present, it's 54-40-2, with four seats still too close to call, although the Republican candidate is ahead in each of those four states. Al Franken lost by a mere 571 votes, leading to a mandatory recount. Good grief. Al Franken?

A filibuster is a long rambling speech given by a member or members of the minority party. If a bill comes up the minority (republicans) don't like, they literally talks for HOURS till the time expires on the bill and no vote is allowed - the bill dies.
It is a way for a minority to shut down the process when a majority in the senate wants to vote.
It would be like New Hampshire negating last night's election by waiting 3 weeks to hold it's own elections.
Filibusters should be eliminated immediately - neither party should be allowed to use them and deny the right of the majority to vote.

The folks on your side of the aisle used the procedure as well... Were you as vociferous in your objection to it when the Republicans had the majority? I tend to doubt it...

Not someone I want making decisions for my family, and state. I would have thought they would have learned their lesson after Ventura but apparently a lot of them didn't. And what doesn't make sense to me is that we end up with a very close race between him and Coleman but yet Obama took this state by a fairly big difference.

There was an independent candidate that siphoned off almost 350,000 votes. I didn't follow that race at all, as I thought there was no chance of an idiot like Franken becoming a Senator, particularly in a midwestern state. But, I suspect that the independent pulled his votes more from Coleman than from Franken. If the recount puts a moron like Franken in, it'll be an absolute disaster. Even worse than Perot aiding and abetting Clinton's victory over Bush 41.
