I work night shifts. At 7:30 am I was asleep after an exhausting night. Polls opened at 7:30 am of course but thats okay, I live in small town, no problem. I get up at 10 am to go and vote - before lunch, shouldn't be a problem.
Like 75 people in line - are you frickin kidding me? So I go to Wal-Mart, blow some time, do a couple of things I need to, come back ... STILL long line, like people sitting in lawn chairs long.
So, I'm going to bed again. If I get up before 7:30 pm when the polls stop I'll drive over, again, and see if there is a long line. If there is, I'll not vote.
How many tens of thousands of wasted man hours are we seeing today?
How many tens of thousands of dollars spent on fuel driving?
National on-line system, everyone votes with their SS # as identification, cross check all them after the voting and you can quickly identify voter fraud if there are more than one of the same .... quick, easy .... hell I can get porn, a movie and order food in 30 seconds on my computer but I still can't vote in one of the most technologically advanced countries in the world ?
Its am embarrassment, a disgrace and it pisses me off .... I can think of no other reason to keep this archaic system of voting than it allows people to fraud and they want to keep that ability.
I was in line at 6:20. Three people in front of me had to vote provisionally or not at all because they had requested absentee ballots, but "didn't use them."
Wow, one more spoiled american. I can't vote quick enough so I guess it's not important enough for me. Never mind all the people who died to give you that privilege, no go ahead a sleep.

SSNs aren't private numbers. Can't even get a cell phone without giving the 19 y.o. working behind the counter at Best Buy your SSN. Pizzez me off to no end.

Amen to that. I'm sure you could have voted early if you wanted to kitty. Hell, think of it as a chance to assemble with members ofyour community and share ideas on democrasy. I'm sure voting over the internet wouldn't be subject to fraud

RE: our voting system is a disgrace
Can't wait in line for something as important as voting and then to make matters worse you go to WalMart to spend some (quality) time.
Stealthy2 you are an embarrassment to all who came before you. Even Big Red Porkers had more class than that....and he didn't have much!

i submit tht you have never seen an archaic voting system until you vote absentee ballot in OK
1. You get a ballot and three envelopes.
2. You vote.
3. You put the ballot in an envelope.
4. You but that envelope inside a second envelope.
5. You hunt down a notary public who notarizes the statement on the second envelope.
6. You put the second envelope inside a third envelope and mail it.
I can tell you in 30 seconds if I'm registered to vote, where I'm suppose to vote and in 2 minutes I can give you details on every single amendment, act, proposition and the low down on every candidate in every race.
And I can do it while I'm on a video conference bridge, watching porn in a side screen, running a script for work, ordering pizza and listening to pandora radio.
Please, we're in 2008, we're NOT in a third world country, the voting process is incredibly archaic
It has nothing to do with respecting the vote, we're conditioned to instant gratification, instant results from paying bills on-line to direct deposit to downloading the latest movie release, ..... hell we are so fast paced we don't want to walk into a gas station or a bank!
But we're wasting millions of man hours, and millions of dollars in a voting system reminiscent of something you would see in a 1940's movie ?
I waited 1 hour almost on the nose, as did hundreds of others in the same line and guess what ? I was given a number after showing them my voter registration number (that I already pulled off the interenet) and they gave me a number to give to the gal who would show me how to use the machine. Same number I could have gotten online using a nice secure web site. The voting booth was touch screen, super easy to use and super fast - duh, we've taken it that level but can't go to the next?
