Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Long Lines at Polling Place

Right now there are at least 200 folks standing in line to vote at our polling place. We will try again this afternoon. In the end it does not matter how one votes inOK because McCain will win this state hands down.

This country is very polarized. It is a sad commentary on thiselection when only a few states will determine who wins the white house. Voters in PA, VA, CO, OH, NCand FL hold the key to this election.

That is why I think we need to get rid of the electoral college. My vote for McCain means jack in my state since it typically goes for democrats. If we had the election decided by popular vote every vote would count. I know the republicans got all defensive when the democrats were suggesting that Gore would have won by popular vote, but this time you could actually have McCain win the popular vote and still lose big in the electoral college. The ONLY fair way in my opinion is the popular vote, no matter what the geniuses thought was best 220 + years ago.

Sorry, never ever get rid of the electorial college. If they did then your state issues would no longer matter. Remember, voting isn't a right it is a privilage. No one has the right to vote. Your state allows you to vote. They have the power to no longer hold an election for the President of The US. They could easily decide to give that choice to the state house.

OK, don't complain then if one day in the near future YOUR candidate wins the popular vote and loses by close to a landslide in the electoral college. It can happen. And if we living in this country were not given the right to vote by the federal government, then right there we have a big problem. Why should this NOT be a right for one and all in a nation that prides itself on democracy like ours?

Maybe it's because we're not a democracy, we're a representative republic. I won't feel bad if my candidate won the popular vote but lost in the electorial college. The rules are the rules, I would move on.

I didn't have to wait at all. I was voter 47 in my county and there had been 39 in Meeker. There were still 2 booths open. Tonight will be a different story though, the lines will be outside and around the corner.

One of the joys of living in the sticks. I stopped by my polling place on my way to school at 9:00 this morning and was in and out in less than 5 minutes; The guy running the signin desk made the wisecrack that my family was going to 'swing' the district, aparantly there are about 10 of us registered in district 3...
