Bombshell after bombshell continue to emerge on Obama . . . most of them are duds, however.
I wonder if this will impact the race any in places where coal is king, like West Virginia, eastern Kentucky . . . oh, and a little electorally unimportant place called Pennsylvania?
Coal is making a big comeback in my area thanks to the new scrubbers that make the lower grades of coal environmentally viable. Mountaintop removal mining hasn't made it to my home county yet, but several mine locations have been identified and permits will soon be applied for. Personally, I wish the coal industry would go bankrupt. But that's JMO. I can't believe a presidential candidate would be silly enough to say such a thing, especially one who plans to make America energy independent.
I think it's too late for something like this to make any sort of difference at all, but it's interesting nonetheless.

Interview with SF Chronicle. Posted by the same guy who posted the last "bombshell" Obama audio.
My biggest fault with the Bush administration was the relaxation of environmental standards that benefited the surface coal mining industry. The environment is the one benefit I can see of an Obama administration. I don't think I would agree with Obama on coal-burning power plants, though (I'm not really read up on the hazards and benefits of coal energy . . . or, to paraphrase McCain, "clean coal")

(just got outta the woods for some pre-gun season scouting)
Well what did you find? I have an uncle who has invited me up to hunt a PA farm but I haven't taken him up on it. I always figured there would be too many hunters there for my liking.

there are. but hunting a farm in PA is a great idea. public land tends to be highly pressured, but the deer ain't stupid. i've noted they tend to favor farms to avoid the hunters.
Great day though. we've hunted the same state forest for the last 8 years, about 90 minutes from home, and poor deer management has just about hunted it out. During gun season, haven't so much as seen a deer the last two seasons. The boys love the time in the woods, but frankly they're getting a little discouraged.
decided to shake it up a bit this year, and get a cabin in a state park about 3 hours away. never stepped foot into this particular stretch of woods before today (the job, 3 kids playing football, and me coaching really cut into my scouting time this year). got some topos, and from that estimated where we wanted to hunt. as we walked in, bout 200 yards from the road, my middle guy (12) asked if i thought we'd have betterluck in this forest. as i was about to answer, i looked up and say a freakin monster of an 8 pointer, not 40 yards from us. he snorted, pawed the ground and just stared at us. we got about 10 yards clsoer, and he didn't move. my boy asked me if i thought "that doe" was the reason he wasn't moving-i looked to where he was pointing, and there was a nice size doe about 8 yards from him. (gotta love the rut)
we found a couple of his scrapes, his water, but never found his bedding area (this was all on the side of a ridge, very steep. i assume his waters at the creek, and follows the scrapes and rub lines up to bed on top of the ridge). founda couple good set-up spots. can hardly wait to get out there.
I can only imagine how many jobs this will COST. Did Obama figure such loss in his vow to create 5 million new jobs? If you create 5 million and eliminate5 million, is that good? Can you mandate technologies that don't exist? Wind might produce up to 20% of our much higher energy needs 20 years from now, and that's it. No nukes under Obama, so I guess the rest is phantom technology that will be created out of thin air? Can't have tide turbines in mid America!
Thats real f'in classy pal! I dont know what industry you work in but karma is a bitch!
I intend no disrespect to you, nor no harm to your livelihood.
It's just that I have little respect for an industry that blatantly rapes the land. I'm completely okay with subsurface mining. I guess it isn't as lucrative anymore to the industry players because it isn't as profitable.
Oh, and my industry is going belly-up, too. My colleagues don't rape the land, but they tend to be brutal with the unsuspecting public.

I know how discouraging public land can get. I swore I'd never pay to hunt, but my family and I leased some land a couple of years ago so we can get away from the pressure of public land and properly manage the herd. Haven't seen a shooter yet but I did get some great video footage yesterday of a nice 8 pt. working a scrape line. Good luck with him; maybe one of your boys will be putting him on the wall.
