Colin Powell had been bugged by many things in his party"s campaign this fall: the insidious merging of rumors that Barack Obama was Muslim with intimations that he was a terrorist sympathizer; the assertion that Sarah Palin was ready to be president; the uniformed sheriff who introduced Governor Palin by sneering about Barack Hussein Obama; the scorn with which Republicans spit out the words "community organizer"; the Republicans" argument that using taxes to "spread the wealth" was socialist when the purpose of taxes is to spread the wealth; Palin"s insidious notion that small towns in states that went for W. were "the real America."
But what sent him over the edge and made him realize he had to speak out was when he opened his New Yorker three weeks ago and saw a picture of a mother pressing her head against the gravestone of her son, a 20-year-old soldier who had been killed in Iraq. On the headstone were engraved his name, Kareem Rashad Sultan Khan, his awards " the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star " and a crescent and a star to denote his Islamic faith.
"I stared at it for an hour," he told me. "Who could debate that this kid lying in Arlington with Christian and Jewish and nondenominational buddies was not a fine American?"
He should be granted the same accolades as any US serviceman, and ANY republican would say the same thing. So once again, what does this have to do with the election? Powell seems to back Obama for racial reasons. I'm just taking his own words for it. HE brought it up (having a black president would be electrifying), and despite Obama calling Powell a liar for "false information" on the satellite photos of WMDs being moved, race trumps all else the same way abortion trumps women breaking glass ceilings for NOW.

How do you know what ANY republican would say? You give people too much credit. Andletme get this straight, because he suggested that having a black presidentwould beelectrifying means he's supporting Obama for racial reasons? Did you even hear the whole interview??? All you see is a man of color supporting another man of color and you immediately think he's doing it because of his race. Good grief...

Absolutely nothing. Read the title of the post. Obama's middle name has nothing to do with the election but people seem to think it is absolutely necessary on here to type Barack HUSSEIN Obama.
Is Powell admitting he lied about the satellite photos? Powell supported going into Iraq, and Obama says Bush lied (ie. it was all a purposeful distortion of the facts for us going in). How could one possibly support someone who called them a liar unless they have an alterior motive, and it was HIM,POWELL, who brought up the race issue. Yes, it could be he supports Obama because he wants Obama to pay him back with a cabinet position, but I'm going on what he himself brought up as a highly likely motive.

Using Obama's middle name is silly, as I've said many times. But I don't think it's any sillier than people on here constantly referring to McCain as "McSame." Face it, wahoohunter, there is plenty of mud being slung by both sides.

This is one of the better posts I have seen all day. Thanks Griswold.

And some people still think it's more than necessary to say type McSame, when Bush has little or nothing to do with this election, because he's not running.
It's not a one-way street here, now what puzzles me is this thread.
Are you trying for a peace-negotiation or something? An agreement not to use "McSame" when talking about McCainand "Barack Hussein" or "Osama" when referring to Obama?
