The book is a very long read with over 300 years of french history, few have read it, but the movie
Valjean was played by an Irishman.
Think of a debate that's intellectual were questions and answers enlighten it's viewers. A course of action based on what has and has not worked. Questions like "Was the financial collapse of the early 1800's in the North the stimulus for the expansion of government which led to the civil war?" People are loosing large amounts of wealth now and finding protection for it in the government. It's the same as then and it led to the north controlling things like tariffs/tax's which they became exempt from while the south did not. Couple that with the desire to take what the south had and add in an emotional situation like slavery which caused the religious to support for any reason even theft, (which is very similar to the entire book of judges in the bible) and you end up with the same thing, civil war. Brother killing brother some for noble reasons and an elite few doing just what Hamilton said this countries function was "The wealthy to make money off of it"!
You nor I have ever seen this kind of president or debate. What we have had are savvy people who know how to play the people like a harp. The recent VP debate is proof, it was built up by the media like it was a boxing match. It had everything except the "pay per view" tag. Saw in the news it had record viewer ship. I didn't see it but I'm sure it was worthless. They strummed it and the people sang. Predictable! As predictable as the drop in oil just before the election has been.
