Default Service Economy whose idea?

When did the major powers decree that the US would be a Service economy and move away from a manufacturing economy? Is it a result of the EPA, Labor Laws, Taxation,Government regulation or a combination of all the above?

Let's not forget that demand on public companies to increase profits each year while reducing operational expenses. Overseas wages are cheap and it increases the bottom line. At least until that countries wages increase which, in some countries is starting to happen...... Shipping has also been traditionally cheap, minus the recent gas prices.

The major powers did not decree that the US should be a service economy. Those pukes on both sides of the aislesin the US capitoltook big bucks from US companies who wanted cheap Chinese labor andwho wanted to circumvent US laws: Net result, American workers were solddown the drain.

Now the chickens are coming home to roost in big flocks. It may be a long dry spell.

Not just China, let's not forget NAFTA, Bill Clinton's baby who sold many jobs south of the border.

I know if I get my business up and running (possibly within the month) and Obama gets in and raises my taxes, then yep, another country will be looking pretty good...

Either he can get elected and your taxes may go up, yes. Or McCain can get elected, let the Bush Tax cuts sunset and your taxes will double. Have fun

I'm laughing my butt off right now with the responses. Fact is more people have risen from the lower classes in life the the other way around. This stuff worring about outsourcing just isn't supported with the facts. Jobs in America have risen as well as wages. However, many will always freak out and blame someone else when they have failed to educate themselves.
